In regards to a previous post... While standards of living in the Air Force are considerably better than in the other services, what he said isn't exactly true... in some cases, you won't have to worry about sleeping in a tent or seeing combat... but the Air Force is changing! Before I deployed, I was staying in a dorm with tiled floors, bunkbeds, with 3 roommates (AF normally never has roommates) and overall just bad accomadations... Once I deployed, I was staying in tents for about a month and a half before I got to "upgrade" to my snazzy piece of crap trailer with only 1 roommate... And as far as never seeing combat? Yeah... we *are* in combat. Just had a guy from my unit get seriously injured about a week ago... still not sure what will happen to him. Another girl had a bullet fly through the excess material in her sleeve-- didn't even touch her (thank goodness)... we're seeing and doing things as AF members we never thought we'd ever have to see or do... I just don't want you to think that you will avoid this by joining the AF. I am working 13 hour days (minumum, often more) 7 days a week (1/2 day off if mission permits). In my "regular job" in the states, I would work 8-9 hour shifts, but rotating between days and nights with a 5-2-5-3 schedule (5 days on, 2 days off, 5 nights on, 3 nights off). Again, I am not trying to discourage you, but I don't want you to get the wrong impression (like most people have of the AF) that your whole life is a piece of cake. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
And for those of you from the other branches, *please* do not say "omigosh you had to stay a whole month with no carpet, quit your whining"... I was not whining, I didn't whine when I was there, I'm not whining now, I am just stating facts. I know we are much more fortunate that those those that live in those conditions constantly.

Go see the recruiter.
You will take an ASFAB. It's a test to see where your strengths are. You can then pick the job that you would be best at.
Basic training is the shortest of all the branches...6 weeks and it's easier than high school PE.
Areas? ALL areas
Salary? About $1300 and paid room and board.
Salary for officers? Not sure. Need lots of school.
Advancment? Lots.
Benefits? Paid room/board, medical, dental, travel, carpet in rooms, NEVER sleep in a tent or foxhole, NEVER see combat, rare extra duty, free weekends,
Contract? Depends on what you sign up for. Minimum is 4 years.
Email me, I have a detailed description of what basic training is all about.

Go to www.airforce.com You can get ALL this information there. I'd cut and paste it all for you but you should really do your own homework!
