We can not see air because it does not reflect light molecules the molecules that make up air are not close enough together. Rain falls to the ground and not the reverse because of gravity. Gravitational pull from within the earth pulls the water that comes from the clouds

We can not see air because it is a colorless gas.
Water evaporates into the sky and falls to the ground because of Gravity.

We can see the air when there is alot of air pollution that we can see in the form of smog. If rain went upwards instead of downwards, there would be reverse gravity and everyone/everything would fly out into space.=)

1st question I would love to have answered for myself, too.
Gravity - all atoms exert an attractive force on all other atoms.
The countless of Earth's atoms pull the tiny raindrops down without the raindrops having any noticable movement on the Earth's side.
