One really says "Buenos dÃas" when meeting somebody...like we don´t have the "Good morning" thing, nor "How has your day been" because of cultural/lingual differences...at least here in México and in Spain: living in México for 51 years, and learned Spanish when living in Spain for 8 years. (Learned English studying highschool in USA)
Spanish is a lot more assertive language than English. So one wishes "Good Day", instead of geting lost in "How has it been"...can´t change the past, but can wish the best for the future.

How has you day been? = ¿Cómo ha estado tu dÃa? (with this one you'll get an answer like "it's been ok", "it's been bad", etc. It's more general) or ¿Cómo ha sido tu dÃa? (with this one you're asking for specific details about the day)
The first one is more common though
Hope that helps ;)
