"Praise be to the Lord of the Universe who has created us and made us into tribes and nations, that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other."

I like it, and I'm an Atheist. Can you please tell me which verse it is btw?

I am not a Muslim and I have read some of the Quran out of curiosity. I do not wish to be rude but it reads like the same old Ptolemaic pontification as you find in other old texts. Lots of repetition and great praises. Allah is this, Allah is that, but when all is said and done, Allah is a mass of contradictions.

As far as influencing terrorist activities goes, if it wasn't the Quran influencing them, they'd find another excuse. I don't blame the Quran, I blame the suicidal fanatics themselves for their colossal ignorance and heartless indifference.

"Say: we believe in God and in what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il: Isaac, Jacob and The Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus and the Prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another, among them, and to God do we bow our will (in Islam)." (Qur'an, Al-Imran 3:84)
"The Jews said that the Christians follow nothing (i.e. are not on the right religion); and the Christians said that the Jews follow nothing (i.e. are not on the right religion); though they both recite the Scripture. Like unto their word, said (the pagans) who know not. Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection about that wherein they have been differing"[Quran Surah 2 AlBaqarah :113]

Well I honestly have no idea what the best verse would be because I'm not Muslim. Let's see...maybe the verse that says...

"Let there be no compulsion in religion" ?

002.135 They say: "Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided (To salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham the True, and he joined not gods with God."

002.111 And they say: "None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian." Those are their (vain) desires. Say: "Produce your proof if ye are truthful."
002.112 Nay,-whoever submits His whole self to God and is a doer of good,- He will get his reward with his Lord; on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

What little bits I read I didn't like.....but a Pastor friend of mine said he came to the Lord because there is a verse in the Quran that says that the followers of Jesus would be more greatly revered than those of Mohammad. He asked his teachers to explain it but they couldn't or wouldn't so he went looking for Christianity.

its pure , never changed by a verse or a letter. even if someone would try to change it, millions have it memorized, making it impossible. al-Fatiha is my favorite. Also worth a mention is the fact the Qur'an is written like pure poetry, so easy to memorize.

1. "Therefore We will most certainly make those who disbelieve taste a severe punishment, and We will most certainly reward them for the evil deeds they used to do." (41.27)

2. "Therefore let those fight in the way of Allah, who sell this world's life for the hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, then be he slain or be he victorious, We shall grant him a mighty reward." (4.74)

3. "Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection." (9.29)

4. "O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people." (5.51)

5. "And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah; but if they desist, then surely Allah sees what they do." (8.39)

6. "So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates." (47.4)

7. "O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil)." (9.123)

8. "They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper." (4.89)

9. "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement" (5.33)

10. "O Prophet! urge the believers to war; if there are twenty patient ones of you they shall overcome two hundred, and if there are a hundred of you they shall overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they are a people who do not understand." (8.65)

I didn't write this, and I certainly don't intend to be rude - but this is what I found. But then I don't give much credence to books like this. The christian and hebrew books are filled with worse.

I hope and pray for peace, but it's clear that it's not coming from a book. Instead of thoughtless interpretation and misinterpretation, and blind obedience to books, think we will have to find a new way together.

Hope will come from setting books like this aside, thinking for ourselves and an earnest, continuing effort to understand each other.

I have never seen a Quran book. But I have heard mention of a line in there about 42 virgins. It sounds interesting, but again, I have never actually read that book.

Distortion eh? Tsk, tsk.. how determined of you, or basically an nescient replica-paste from a incorrect source. o.k., right here's the position you acquire incorrect- adult men at the prompt are not "more desirable" to women human beings. they're seen as "protectors" of ladies human beings. Now, i'm no longer retaining women human beings are susceptible, yet i'm retaining a woman's husband is the single to guard his spouse. "the guy of the homestead." men and women at the prompt are not equivalent- one which announces that's in undemanding words fooling himself. Biology shows us this. in spite of the undeniable fact that, they're both major for existence- they're companions of one yet another. The Muslim community might want to no longer "make acquaintances" with the "disbelievers" because they were at conflict with them on the early degrees of Islam. The Muslim community replaced into confronted with a adverse surroundings, and their protection replaced into very expensive therefore, the warring parties might want to no longer be depended on. Duh. except that, you're 'allowed' to be acquaintances with those who're no longer in conflict with you: 60:8 "Allah forbids you no longer, with reference to those who wrestle you no longer for (your) faith nor stress you out of your houses, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who're basically." different verses are basically snipped replica-pastes relating battles including the conflict of Uhud, Trench, and so on. i will not proceed on with an 'argument' containing lots of incorrect information on Islam. come back once you've real options and information on the Qu'ran instead of distortion from anti-Islamist web content. enable me positioned it basically, in case you've not taken a direction on the Qu'ran and performance no longer study it completely, then you definately ought to no longer be attacking it. the accurate result? in undemanding words making your self look fantastically ignorant on the Islamic faith. imagine next time. Peace~
