Hi!
Blisters are caused by friction between the skin of the foot and the sock or shoe rubbing against it - rather than having delicate skin on your feet.
There is a brilliant product called Tippy Toes, which is a greasy white cream you put on your feet to help stop the friction. I ordered mine through Closer magazine (!) though, and haven't been able to find it since, but try googling it. Vaseline works just as well and is used by many serious walkers.
If you had blisters and no-one else did, it is most likely your shoes. If you wear the same shoes for more than two days, you are more likely to get blisters. This is because the same spots on your feet are being rubbed for days and days. Some shoes, as much as you love them, just give you blisters.
Another thing you could buy is some 'Party Feet' gel cusions from Boots. You can buy ones for the sole of your shoe, the back of your shoe (i.e. to protect your ankles) and 'sore spots' for wherever you need a bit of cushioning. I get lots of blisters and soreness, and these work really well.
Blisters unfortunately take time to heal. You can, however, buy special plasters from boots (they cost about £3) which numb the pain slightly and cushion the blister. I personally sterilise a sewing needle or pin in boiling water, wait for it to cool, then pop the blister.
You're not really supposed to do this as it can cause infection... but that's never happened to me and it beats not being able to walk!!
Prevention is better than cure, so I always carry some plasters around in my bag in case I'm out and my feet start crying! You can also buy some ankle tights if you don't fancy socks, as they are better than bare feet.
:-) Sorry about your footsies and I hope they get better!
xx Emmie

Compeed helps to heal blisters. (Boots) To toughen up feet, walk barefoot outside a lot. This is easier when you live in the country, obviously. You probably wore the wrong kind of shoes for your feet, or for the tarmac or both.

If you wear two pairs of socks, one thin pair underneath and one thicker pair on top it might stop the rubbing. I have heard that urine makes your skin harder but i've never tried it and yes surgical spirit is good too. Your skin should be a bit tougher when the blisters have healed so keep trying and they'll soon toughen up. Good Luck!

The reason you got blisters was because your feet were slipping in your shoes. (Not well fitting)
Try walking in bare feet - over time the skin will harden.

Having a waz on your feet will definately toughen the skin, I use to work as a taxi driver and Id pee on my feet as much as possible, I had the toughest feet in the rank and was for ever showing off about it.

Try buying proper hiking boots, and wear them around the at every opportunity to "break" them in, I once (i have big feet for a woman) put them on, and placed them in a bowl of water and let them dry on my feet, this seemed to work as they stretched and moulded to the shape of my foot!
Worth a go! it worked for me!
also wear thermal socks, there good ones around to be found in camping/hiking shops that have special material to avoid blisters!
Good luck!

It sounds more like the problem is your shoes. Properly fitting shoes will not give you blisters like that.

Wipe on surgical spirit morning & evening - you will notice a big difference very quickly. Just what you're looking for.

OK, weird and gross... but I recall (because it will never leave my head) that peeing on your feet after a long walk, makes them tougher.

You can wipe on surgical spirit, but I don't think they sell it over the counter at the chemists any more.
