There is a time to mourn. Wallow with him. Complain about life. Let him know that at least to you, his sadness has merit. I disagree with these people who say, "Ignore it". Unless you figure he really is just fishing for attention, you need to let him know that you take his feelings and thoughts seriously. Don't be too doting and don't enjoy the situation, but don't blow it off either.
Then in a while take him out to do something new and exciting. Skydive, go see a movie, play a prank, go waterskiing, and just let your good time cheer him up. Just bumming around the house and talking won't do any good, this is a GUY.
You two should consider doing community service together. Volunteer working with kids, terminally ill people, or building houses, going on a missions trip or something. Go out and learn something. Do something for someone else. The cure for depression is activity.

get him to laugh like you use to. Also, you may want to seek some advice from his family memebers. Is this something he does often? Or is this just a funk. We all go through funks so maybe he just needs some TLC.

Nothing is the best thing you can give him. He'll come around when no one's giving him attention. He'll realized how much he missed the attention when there's no one to listen to him and his problems of being tired.
Trust me. Ignore him. It always works.

maybe now he needs "Space" and "time",
maybe he needs to be alone for a while.
(like in "Men are from mars women are from Venus> guys need to go to their caves for a while)
but in that time don't leave him all alone, let him feel that you care about him, and don't want to see him like this.
