8 is just fine, about perfect, he still a little boy but not too small, i do not know why some people have toddlers for ring bearers, ages 4 - 10 is perfect. I think they represent the traditional paiges at formal occasions in England and they have to be school age to be a paige. [or is it page]

Anything up to age 10 is fine. I would also say that the child should know how to listen and follow directions and be an all around great kid.
My girlfriend got married and had her 3 year old nephew be the ring bearer. He cried and ran through the church screaming when it was his turn to walk down the aisle... he just didnt want to be away from his mom (the amount of people there probably spooked him)

The average is between 3-6. I think anything over 9 years old is too old and anything younger than 3 is too young. A ring bearer (traditionally) is supposed to be the baby boy of the family - a cute aww moment in the wedding. Anything over 9 is not that adorably cute anymore and under 3 the child is probably too young to follow the directions needed to do the job. But it is your wedding and you can do whatever you want!

To old would be 10 because they want to feel like a big kid and be ring bearer is not their idea of what big kids do. the average for a ring bearer is around 4-6.

I would say 2-12 as boys mature much slower than girls. Any older and he'll not only look out of place he'll feel out of place. And as long as he doesnt think he is too old therefor uncomfortable with the position 8 is a good age. Old enough not to do anything like run down the aisle and hide under a pew but young enough for the cute element

I think that's a good age; while the "traditional" age is usually younger, I think having a child this age as a ring-bearer is a good way to include him in the ceremony, if that's what you want to do. Certainly he's not nearly as likely to need a lot of coaching to be able to walk down the aisle.
Tip for the rings - stitch each one to the pillow with just a couple of stitches. That way, he won't have to worry about them falling off, but they are easy to pull off at the apprpropriate moment :-)

I would agree with the above answers. However, having said that, I would say that if the child one is considering to be the ring bearer is to the age they think it's sissy or stupid, then choose someone younger. I would say ages 5-10 are pretty good.

I think you might be pushing it. Honestly, I know little boys, they get to an age and its usually around 8 where they dont want to do this kind of stuff anymore. Its too cutesy.
I would approach him in private, NOT WHEN HIS MOM IS AROUND because moms are the ones who push their kids into doing stuff like this and ask him outright if he wants to do something in your wedding like maybe be the ring bearer. You will probably have to explain what this entails to him (and be honest, he will remember what you say so dont lie to him) and see what he says. He might say yes, he might say no, but let it be his decision. He will be honest with you about whether or not he wants to do it, at age 8 he still is in the mindframe where he doesnt know to be delicate with peoples feelings. I would guess that he would say no to this request only because boys would rather sit and play with a gameboy than go prancing around in a tux carrying rings and standing in front of a bunch of people where they have to be on their best behavior. But he might surprise you and say yes.
Good luck!

There is no age limit for a ring bearer it is who you want it to be. Most people choose a young boy because they add an element of cuteness (and sometimes entertainment) to the wedding.
