You pack it down.

It should slide out of the cup (or whatever unit you are using) as one block of brown sugar.

First never use a pyrex glass that are made for liquid measures, but use a dry measuring cup. If you need a 1/3 cup brown sugar fill the 1/3 cup with the brown sugar then press and make it compact until it reaches the top of the dry cup measurement. That would be how you would measure brown sugar.

Sorry, I never measure - I just eyeball it for most things. I do know that you need to pack down brown sugar if using a measuring cup ( you can use the back of a tablespoon for this, it fits nicely into the top of a measuring cup)

You can use any kind of cup, metal, plastic, or glass. Press the sugar down lightly to remove any air pockets. Level the top so its exactly a pressed cup of brown sugar and keep the remainder of brown sugar tightly sealed in the refrigerator for lasting freshness. If you find your brown sugar getting a little dry, put a couple slices of apple in the bag for a day and see if that helps.

My Grandma always told me to pack it down tightly in a measuring cup(she used a regular cup) than take a knife run over the top thus making it level. Always works for me.
Lol I sure you'll be getting many good ideas and I look forward to leaning a new trick.

There are 2 ways to measure brown sugar. One way is to scoop it like regular sugar and the other way is to pack it. Usually the recipe will say "packed brown sugar" which means, you press it into the measuring cup. Generally, I pack it.
