Pollitically wrong makes a good point, I as well served in the Marines (0321). The less desireable of the civilization would be forced into the draft, and I would worry about that fact, but as he well knows, war forms amazing bonds among people, and even those less desireable in our society deserve the chance to make things right, and being forced into the military, may do that for some of them. Sorry this didnt really answer your question, I'll throw in a few ideas

If the draft were to be re-instated, it would cause even great unrest among the people, leading to further disaproval by the american people, and possibly even the recreation of people fed up with the governement treating returning soldiers as they did in the 60's and 70's.

Sorry, i cant think of alot of ideas against it, because i think Boot Camp would put most of the country in shape, its something alot of kids these days need.

There is talk about it, in fact I know a politician will be introducing a bill very soon wanting to reinstate the draft. Now against the military draft......not everyone is cut out to be a soldier...there are some people who even refuse to pick up any weapon, much less shoot it at someone. Not everyone is also in shape enough to even pass their basic training at boot camp......or would have to be recycled several times to pass the basic training. You have people with medical problems, which it's obvious reason right there. Plus the human mind has a very strong will......if someone decides to be against something...and really puts their foot down.....you can do whatever you want, and the still won't change their mind. Best of luck to you.

This was the first question I aksed when I first got hooked to Yahoo Answers. I'm currently writing a research paper on the same subject.

Lets start with the facts:
1) America has forces deployed all over the world.
2) President Bush is raising the number of troops currently in Iraq.
3) The military is made up of 2.6 million soldiers, but 1.2 million are part-time.
4) President Bush put a time limit on the amount of time reservists can be activated...24 months.
5) Iran is threatening to destroy America.

Draft pro: America will have enough troops to sustain the rate of deployment to other countries.

Draft con: The military would fill up with troops who resent being forced to go to war.

Draft con rebutal: The military already has soldiers filled with resentment because a good portion of troops are involuntarily extended past the time they are supposed to get out. Or recalled into the military after they have already gotten out.

Draft pro: A draft will make the war personal for everyone that is within the age limit, or has family within the age limit.

Overall...America NEEDS a draft.

A draft in my opinion is unconstitutional.

Esp if you do not support the regime that is calling for the draft.

With Bush's approval rating being so low I can hardly think that Americans would support a draft.

Bush is 1 step away of being considered one of the worst "dick"tators in history as well as the worst President in American history.

Where was Bush when the Vietnam draft occurred?
Here is a man that was of age to serve his country and chose not to.
Check the Texas National guard air division.
M.I.A. a proverbial no show for most of the roll call.
This is a man that never held a valid passport.
In charge of making foreign policy for countries he has never visited or could not even point out on a map.

If Bush calls for a draft he deserves to be impeached.

Here is a man of privilege that will never see battle.
Lives in an Ivory tower and expects minorities and socioeconomically challenges youth to fight his war.

Bring back the draft!
Include illegal aliens over the age of 18 and allow them to earn the right to be in USA!

Sorry I don't have a statement against the draft. . . .in most other countries of the world they have compulsory military service. Why should the USA be excluded?

I do not think the draft would be a good idea just for the fact what about human rights and freedom of speech. They will not have these if they are drafted. No one that gets drafted has no rights left they are forced into something weather or not they like it or not. They do not have the freedom to choose. It is wrong dead wrong.

Yes, I am against the military draft being re-established as I don't think it is needed due to our military being all-volunteer. I was a draftee in 1968 and you have zero choice as to what your going to be doing in the military and like about 98% of all draftees I wound up being a rifleman in the infantry and shipped off to VietNam in late 1968.

I would say what I said above, not needed because our military is an all volunteer force.

The Army and Marines are exhausted. Some are on thier fourth tour. Thier equipment is wearing out. The Surge is the most shortsighted strategy ever devised. There aren't adequate troops to replace them when it's over.
We can't start a draft without bringing home troops to train the expanded force.
So far we still haven't gotten control of the Sunni, who make up 20% of the population.
The war is lost and we don't want to admit it.

We barely have enough soldiers to handle where we are at right now, same goes for money. This is leading to longer deployments etc. If we get into it with Iran there WILL be a draft. Personally I support it but thats just me, I think there would be a lot more educated, patriotic people if eveyrone had to serve in the military once.
