Only if you use CD-RW instead of CD-R and rename the file after each edit e.g. Excelrev1, Excelrev2, etc). If the file is currently saved into a CD-R, you will then need to copy it to a CD-RW instead.

Assuming that you are using WinXP, to update the file, just insert the CD into your PC and then open the Excel file to edit. After editing, click to Save As and browse to your CD-writer drive and type in a new revised filename (e.g. D:/Excelrev2).

Once the Save As has been successful, close the Excel spreadsheet and then double click My Computer. You will note that your CD-writer drive will have included the new revised file and there should also be a note which reads something like 'files are ready to be written' .. point your mouse over this message and then right click your mouse. You will then see an option to confirm writing the file to your CD-RW.

You should now hear your CD-RW drive running and when it finished saving your file, close the My Computer windows and then reopen it to check that your CD-RW has written the revised file correctly.

Hope the above helps.

No. Some CD writing software would lead you to believe that you can update files on a CD-R but in fact they just make a new file in a new spot on the disk and the old space is now useless.

You can use a CD-RW which is actually re-writable but they are not meant to be used over and over - only a few times. The risk of losing your data is too high for that to be reasonable storage mechanism.

Yes, if you burn it on CD-RW at special format. HP CD drive supports this feature. And at this format, the cd acts like a hard drive. This means you can remove, delete, add files to that CD.

The CD would have to be re-writable and you would have to perform a burn each time to write the files.

A flash drive would work better.

If the CD is a CD-RW then you can. Not with CD-R though

A better option would be to get an SD card and use it like you would a floppy.
