simplest explanation: you soul is you; the ethereal part of a human being comprising of a mind, will and emotions that are imprinted from those of the human body.

as long as you have the ability to think, reason and imagine (mind), decide morally and have a conscience (will), and feel the emotions of you and others (emotion) then you'r e asoul as a human.

I believe the soul is the essence of mankind that he is endowed with by God. I believe all our souls ARE separate and unique in ways, but I believe based on certain verses in the Bible that humanity is all one essence. Meaning we arent too much different from the 1st human being ever constructed. I believe your soul is much different than anybody elses, youre just a piece of humanity, a chip off the old block.

The Q is, how is yours progressing, and does it possess any faith?

There is considerable disagreement about the definition of a soul, but most Christians believe it is the part of you that continues to live when the body dies.

I don't buy into the concept but my dictionary says

"the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part."

and I'll ride with that.

I believe, according to scripture, that the soul is what makes us unique as God's creation; ie the ability to use our free will to CHOOSE right from wrong. So it's a compilation of a conscience given to us by Him, and the ability of the mind to make rational decisions. If this were NOT the case, then God wouldn't say in Romans Chapter one......(forgive the lengthiness but to get my point I want to include the whole portion of scripture.....

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Here, it mentions that God will give certain people over to a "reprobate mind" ....for example, those that continue in their lifestyle of homosexuality, (Verses 26 &27) are specifically mentioned in this passage, and since one chooses God, with the MIND, FREELY, that once given over to a reprobate mind because of the lifestyle of unrepentant sin mentioned in these verses, this type of person would never EVER again have any interest in coming to seek forgiveness of their sins.

So in summary, it seems to me that everyones MIND and CONSCIENCE constitutes the SOUL.

EDIT: I just wanted to give a look at what occurs to the soul AFTER Salvation, since my above mentioned example was quite negative...

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
But ye have not so learned Christ;
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; (Ephesians 4:17-23)

Notice again the mind is mentioned...we are said elsewhere as to have to "mind of Christ" once we become born again, which is a process in spiritual growth, now that we have the abiding presence of His Holy Spirit.

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (Philippians 2:5)
