2) Are the dependant or independant? Ex- Do they like your attention?
3) Does your golden like water?
4) Whats his/her name?
5) Do you prefer having a male or a female and why?

I have two goldens and have had two goldens previously and a golden mix.

They have a longer coat that does need to be brushed regularly. I find if I brush at least once a week the hair isn't too much of a problem. If I don't, hair in thr house becomes an issue. I have a good vacuum and a Roomba and use them regularly. That said, I prefer the longer golden hair that you can just pick up off the floor to the hair from short haired dogs that just seems to get everywhere.

My goldens sleep in my room on their own beds. I vacuum the beds when i vacuum the house and wash them as needed. I don't think I could deal with a husband and two large dogs totalling approx. 160 lbs. in a queen-sized bed with me.

My goldens don't just want my attention, they NEED it. They love to be loved. They are very sweet dogs that just crave human attention. This desire to please makes them very easy to train. I think it is wonderful.

My goldens love water. We have a creek behind our house and they love to go in it. We have a small pond and when my female drinks from it, she doesn't just drink, she submerges half her body in it. Have lots of old towels around.

My male is Bo and my female is Bayley.

I have had both and I think both are great. they go together well in pairs. Just like people they all have their own different personalities. Bo is in charge, but is a benevolent leader. He is never aggressive with any other dog or any person and is generally laid back. He is fussy about what is under his feet and jumps over doormats. He worries about ceiling fans. Bayley is athletic and yet girly and sweet. She teases Bo by taking his toys and pulling his tail. She loves to cuddle.

My other goldens were different, just like different people. I absolutely love the breed. I'm not sure I could live without them.

Hi Amanda,
Yes I have 2 Golden's with me now but I have bred and raised Golden for a long time.
A Golden should have a beautiful coat with nice feathering when an adult. They do shed alot but with proper brushing and a good diet the shedding can be maintained. I do not allow my dogs to sleep in our bed there wouldn't be any room for us.
Golden's are very loyal and friendly and show their owners much love and attention. I haven't had a Golden who wasn't an attention hound! All my Golden's love the water and swim with me every summer in our pool. I have many friends who take their Golden's on their boat and they swim off the boats too. I have 2 males right now. I do prefer the males just personal choice. I have had clients tell me they would only have females. So it's a toss up!
If you have any more questions just e-mail me. I'll be happy to answer them all.

1) he doen't leave a pile of hair behind but I do have to sweep a lot. ( However I have 4 animals)
2) Very dependant. They love attention. Most I've met prefer attention to treats.
3) Mine LOVES water. He'll run through the sprinklers, swin in the kidie pool, and swim in the ocean.
4) His name is Bentley
5) No real preference. We rescued him from the Humane Society because his first owners moved. We have a Female Great Dane also and we don't really see the difference. They are both fixed so there aren't any "unfixed" issues. However, if you want a male puppy and don't want him to lift his leg on everything, get him neutered before he learns that behavior. (you should get the dog fixed regardless because it is better for the dog in the long run).

Yeah I did-
1) Yes you find it everywhere and all over you, its good to keep up with the hair maintenance and bath schedules. Yes the bed will be full.
2) They are family dogs so I would say they are dependent. If you dont give them enough attention they will beg for it a lot. This can cause Seperation Anxiety which is also something you need to prevent from the start. Mine took a lot of naps when I wasnt able to pay full attention to her.
3)Mine swam all the time- favorite activity
4) Maddison
5) I liked having a female but if you have them nuetered it doesnt make a big difference (one has parts the other doesnt)

We have a golden and so does my mother in law and sister in law. My hubby grew up with them and yes there is a difference is goldens
We have a light colored golden, Ace will be 2 years in July and he has long hair and sheads like crazy. Everyone says he has gotten better but still has a lot of puppy in him still. He LOVES attention and is a people dog, he is gentle but jumps at times and loves the water, my in laws live an a lake...all 3 dogs like the water and will swim and fish all day!
My in laws have a red golden, both sister and mother in laws do and their dogs, Sadie and Abbey have shorter hair and shead but not as much. They are older goldens and are very good, with kids and directions but still love attention.
So i suggest checking out the different colors of goldens cause their hair is different....also the vet told us 80% of goldens who run away with other dogs or in the road are unneutered so we are getting him neutered and that is supposed to help with him hyperness....
He is dependent for sure and loves the water
My in laws both have females and we have a male...I like it cause i dont have to deal with them being in heat...dont know if that is a vaild point but sorry i dont do well with wiping blood off the floor even if it is only lil spots
Hope i helped and I love ACE!
Good luck

Yes, I have a female 80lb Golden. She has long yellow and white silky hair, and I should own stock in Hoover sweeper bags. I have to vacume everyday, and caution visitors not to wear dark colors to my house. She thrives on attention, and gives back as much if not more than recieved. Her name is Zenobia. She is 7 yrs old. I have had her sense she was a puppy. She does not however like the water. At least not lakes with waves . Even though I need to vacume daily, and it takes at least half an hour everyday to groom her, I wouldn't trade this dog for anything in the world. She is the sweetest, most loving friend to me. And if people complain when they come to my house due to the hair, I simply reply, she lives here too, you don't.

My grandma and also old neighbor has one.

1) Hair will be everywhere so u have to brush him/her daily. And get them use to the brush and anyother grooming tools at a very young age.
2) They love attention and are constantly there for u
3) My grandmas love the water. My old neighbor not sure cause they didnt live near water. Most all G.R. love water cause they were originally bred to be water dogs.
4) My grandmas dog is named Abby, her old one named Rusty. Neighbors not sure, dont remeber.
5) Umm i dont really think it matters. I never noticed any difference between Rusty (m) and Abby (f). Except maybe Rusty was a darker color and Abby was a lighter color. And Rusty was a tad bit more rough than Abby.

GOOD LUCK!

I've never had one but I really want one! My grandparents had one though. He did shed quite a bit from memory but he was an outdoors dog and they lived on a farm so it didn't really matter. Just when you wore black/dark clothes and he would lean on you. Which brings me to the next point. Everytime I went up there this dog would come up and lean on my legs, just wanting to be played with/patted/close to someone. I had to have someone distract him so I could get in the house! But he was a lovely dog. Like everyone else has said, Goldens generally love water and this dog was no exception! There was a creek on the property that he would go and swim in, either when we went down there and sometimes on his own.
His name was Roger. He was gorgeous! I don't know whether female or males are best but he was male and just the best! His best friend was my grandparents cat and he often would go and lie with the sheep on the farm too.

Golden Retrievers are an EXCELLENT breed. I have had 2 Pure Bred Golden Retrievers in the past, and they remain MY FAVORITE BREED! Neither of my dogs ever shed alot. They
were both indoor/outdoor dogs. They should have a large yard or access to a park or large area to exercize. They are VERY affectionate and LOVE your attention...and will work very hard to please their MASTER. I have NEVER met a Golden Retriever that DIDN'T like water...they are a WATER DOG and were bred for hunting/retrieving the game that was shot.

1) My Golden doesn't shed HALF as much as my little short-haired mutt or half as much as my friend's daschund.
2)My dog loves attention. I mean she is like my sister, but to me-that is a good thing.
3)Yes-LOVES water, but knows when to stop, unlike a lab.
4) Her name is scarlette ohara rose...because she is a red-golden
5)females are great if you want a shorter coat, but the males are just as gentle and have a gorgeous feathery coat
