Why do people like pit bulls?!?

I've never understood. So people, give me reasons!

Well, Cap'n Crunch, it's kind of like why did you get that pair of shoes you're wearing (assuming you are wearing shoes right now!)? Because they had something you liked about them--either their comfort, their color, the way they make you feel, the personality they may have, their style.

People like pit bulls for various reasons: they may be hoping the dog makes them feel protected (which you can get from almost any kind of big dog, or even a small dog with a fierce bark!), they may like the way the dogs are built (a sturdy, confident, amazing animal!), they may like how the dog could make them feel tough(?), they may know that pit bulls are extremely smart and are very personable, or maybe they are just in love with the breeds for all the reasons listed and then some!

Because they are friendly, loyal dogs. However, some people like then because they want to fight them. These are the people who give the breed a bad name. I worked at a Humane Society for 2 years and had maybe 1 Pit in quarantine. All of them passed temperment tests whereas other dogs people think are so cute and friendly did not. One of the most agressive dogs we had at the shelter was a daschund. People who "hate" pits are ignorant and need to do a little research before labeling a breed. If they spent some actual time with them instead of listening to all the bad stuff they'd see how sweet they can be. BTY, I'd trust a pit bull anyday over a chihuahua or any other designer dog.

Well, because they can be a very good dog, like any other dog could be. They love people, are clowns, and have this amazing wisdom in their eyes. They make really good therapy dogs,search and rescue dogs,and service dogs. They have made many people very happy with just how they wiggle their butt and give you kisses. They have saved many lives and protected many owners from harm. They are loyal. Unfortunately, some idiots like them because they turn them into fighting dogs and misbreed them for money. Also some idiots who don't have a clue how to handle one who get them so they look "cool" and "tough". I know the breed pretty well being a Dog Training Instructor in an area with a lot of them. Why judge someone if they truly love the breed and treat it right though? Might as well ask why some people like German Shepards,Rotties, Yorkies,Papillions,Labs,Boxers, etc.. Everyone has their own taste. I like all dogs though. I couldn't pick just one because each individual dog has it's own amazing personality. My best answer for you is to go to a Pit Bull Rescue or find a Pit Bull Owners club and meet some of the good ones yourself. You may be surprised. I bet you will be. ; )
Oh, and that "Bricky" or however you say your name,what a horrible thing to say about another animal. You are obviously closeminded. I hope for the sake of the planet that someday that changes. We need less people like you in the world.
Okay wait, all of you saying that Pit Bulls suck. Interesting, so you have met every single pit bull in the world to know this is true? Wow, how amazing, how did you have the time to do that? Wow. I guess if you're ever in a disaster where you're close to death and they need search and rescue dogs,if all they have is pits, we'll just let them pass you up.

Why don't you like them? Probablly because they are mean and aggressive and bad pets huh? Well chihuahuas are too in my opinion and so are many other small breed dogs I have to work with everyday. I have been working at a vets office for three years and have yet to see a mean or aggressive pit bull. They are adorable dogs and with proper socialization and training are the best dogs I have come in contact with. The reason people use them for fighting is not because they have an agreesive nature, its because physically they are the best for fighting. Same as greyhounds are physically best for racing. Pit bulls have the most powerful jaw of any breed because the jaw muscle attatched at the very top of the head with creates a locking action when they bite. Don't dislike certain breed just because people mistreat them and turn them into the monsters they aren't. I have seen more agressive labs and golden retrievers in my life than pits. They are magnificant dogs and have the most adorable smiles ever!

Well I guess I can't really answer this because I doMt necessarily like a dog that kills. All the time. I like dogs. But I don't like pit bulls because they aren't supposed to be family pets. We bred them for one purpose. Fighting. And that's what they love to do. So for all you pit bull advocates out there, please educate yourself and be realistic about this breed. You can't train their genetics out of them.

Contrary to what people think there actually very nic and loyal dogs. THere also great with dogs. THey jsut have a bad name because there constantly used in dog fights which will make them mean which would make them attack other dogs and people when there not supposed to. There also very cute. They r also used for search and rescue and excel in it.

I want u to look at this site and there are links to read about heroic pit bulls, about how bad they are treated (pics. to) and thats what causes most aggression. It also explains how pitbulls can be mean but with proper owner ship that they can be great dogs. So i dont think the aggression should be blamed squarely on the dog but also on the owner.

Anyone who singles out a dog breed is ignorant.
You cannot judge an entire breed based on a few dogs, that you have or haven't even been around.
Some of the meanest dogs I have been around have been bichons, mini poodles and chihuahuas. I work at a grooming shop; and one time we had this bichon poodle mix that tried to take chucks out of us just for trying to brush it. We had to give it back to the owner and tell her that we couldn't groom the dog.
Pit bulls were breed for dog fights, but it all depends on how you train them, just like any other dog. Dogs can change but only if the owner is willing to change also.

Because not all pit bulls are bad. People make them that way by fighting them and breeding them to be fight dogs. SO they get a bad rep.Some of them are very friendly and fairly easy to train.

Why do people like labs? why do people like poodles? They just do. I have a pitbull and its not to make me look tough or anything, I got him from a friend and at first was skeptical about him but hes grown on me and he is by far the best dog ive ever had. unfortunatly some people have them just to make their personal image look tough, others to fight them for profit, so on. I think that SOME people have them because they love them.

Some pit bulls if socialized properly can be just as sweet as a golden retreiver !!!
