I was worndering...:
I have seen it different way:
*Where the bride and groom or their parents pay for the hotel room for all out of town guest
*Where the out of town guest (both family and friends) have to pay for there own hotel room
*Where the bride and groom or their parents pay for only the hotle rooms for out of town family but the out of town friends must pay their own hotel room
What is right?

Only in really rare cases does this happen. Most of the time the bride and groom reserve a block of rooms and in turn for doing that the hotel will give a discounted rate insteadof the the full rate. But usually if you stay at a hotel for a wedding you shell out the bucks yourself.

Depends on how much money the bride and groom have. If they are loaded they pay for the hotels. But generally speaking, no. The guest pays for their own hotel room.

What you do though, is let a local hotel know that you are having a wedding in the area and you would like group rates for the out of town guests. Find out how many rooms you will possibly need. The last wedding my husband and I went to, we pain $120 at The Hilton for a room that cost over $200. You include this information as an added little slip of paper so that the guests can make arrangements.

The bride and grom aren't expected to pay for the hotel rooms unless they have already offered to and maybe if it's a destination wedding they can pay for the bridal party.
Most commonly the bride and groom will get together a packet of information to send with the invites.
The info would be price location and contact of about 2-3 hotels in the area.
Some hotels will offer group rates if you say you're here for the bride and grooms wedding - talk to the hotel to put yourself on the name list.
So out-of-town guests say i'm here for jill and bobs wedding. then the clerk will add them to the guest list and everyone on that list will get a discount.
Hope that makes sence?
God Bless

If you have the money to do it and want to then go for it. I come from a different culture than you, obviously, because when he have weddings and people are coming from out of town all the relatives that live in town make arrangements to make sure everyone that comes from out of town has a place to stay in our home. We dont use hotels, its much more personal and fun to have the entire family united before, during, and after the wedding.
Now if someone doesnt want to stay at a family member's house, then that person pays for their own hotel room.

Honestly if I was a guest, I would expect to pay for my own hotel room. I have never once heard of the bride and groom (or their parents) paying for that.

If money is no option then yes.
If money is kind of a problem but they still want to pay for some, maybe then just pay for immediate family.
If money is out of the question, guests can pay for themselves (most expect that).
For my wedding we are going to pay for my fiance's parents room, and my officiants room (she has to travel quite some distance).
It really is up to the couple, but it isnt written anywhere that you must pay for their lodging. The best thing to do would be to see can you get room discounts if you use over a certain amount of rooms at a particular hotel.

No, bride and groom do not pay for the hotel rooms of anyone.
My brother just got married. They did not pay for the hotel rooms of anyone, and most of his family came in from out of town.

The guests pay for their own accommodations. I could see paying for the parents or someone in their wedding party or grandparents.

No you don't but if you have a place to lodge people you can offer they stay with you instead of paying for a hotel.

The link below says the Bride pays for out-of-town bridesmaids, the Groom for out-of-town Groomsmen, and even than says "sometimes". I hope this helps you out! Congrats on your upcoming nuptials.
