You mean a pediatrician? When the baby is born you can get a list of reputable pediatricians in your area from the nurse before you discharge. Interview them and decide which one is right for you, if they accept your insurance etc. Or go through the yellow pages to dr's and then under pediatricians and interview those people

Obstetrician seems after pregnant women persons.. Gynocologist is for women folk persons often (maximum OB's are additionally GYN's as properly).. I'm guessing you are referring to pediatricians, or general family doctors.
before my daughter was born, we met with 3 different doctors and chose one we felt better fit our personality and needs. We actually went with a family practitioner, and has been wonderful with the baby.
Just open the phone book, check for doctors close to you and call for a "meet and greet" appointment with him/her.
