Depending what country you are from you can also try to participate in a green card lottery.
However, if you already are in a process of obtaining green card as a concluding step of becoming a legal resident. Again there are certain forms you would have to file. It's hard to tell which forms you need without having more detailed information. However, you can find that information on USCIS website.
Or you can also consult a lawyer. You might save yourself a lot of headache that way.
