Hey all,
Was wondering what the best way is to takle the ID situation in clubs and bars in New York. I'm 22, so being under age isn't a problem.
But i'm from NZ, and will be spending five days in the big apple with a friend before we head over to Europe in May.
So would people recommend using our passports as ID? Or would they accept our homecountry drivers licences if they are legit?

Thanks for your help! :)

Because of the problems of under-age drinking and the clubs in NYC are afraid of being closed, bring your passports. There have been too many problems with underage drinkers buying fake ID's (driver's license and student IDs) on the internet and pretending to be from Germany or France and the cops do a surprise inspection and the kids turn out to be from New Jersey, not Germany. So, they will only permit passports - since these are pretty hard to "fake".

I would stick with the passports since that is legal information coming from your country. Not that drivers licenses aren't, but the majority of bartenders/bouncers would think your New Zealand license may be fake since they don't see many of those.

You could try your license, but have your passport on you just in case.

I would assume that most bouncers wouldn't give you trouble for the foreign license if they notice a New Zealand accent. But, then again... I'd probably go with the passport just to be safe.
