is there a way to erase video from a mini dv tape without simply writing over? actually deleting?

You can buy a bulk eraser that emits a strong magnetic field and erases the tape.
Using a bulk eraser does not harm the tape.

Erasing a tape is actually overwriting what is on the tape. One way to make the tape blank again is record with lens cap on till the end of the tape.

i dont think it's possible to delete stuff. although you may want to try a magnet, crude but it might work
and i would guess taping with the lens cap on counts as over writing?
