we have a mexican girl 23 years old that has been working for us for the past year. she speaks no english at all. she works 11 hours a day and is the only mexican there along with my mom and cousin. i try to converse with her to keep her from being bored but conversation is somewhat difficult. i know some spanish because i took 3 years in high school. we had some decent conversations before and i try to talk to her everyday. she only speaks when i talk to her and never talks to me. if i dont speak to her the whole day she will not talk to me. she is not a shy person. when i stand next to her it feels awkard like she is uncomfortable when im close. should i just stop trying to speak to her.

No, you can still engage in conversation. She porbably doesn't talk to you due to the simple fact that you've stopped conversing with her.

Maybe she feels awkward because she is in a place w/ a lot of people that she does not understand and who do not understand her. Maybe because of that she feels a bit defensive. No one wants to look like an idiot after all. Put yourself in her shoes, how would you feel? You do not mention if you are a man. I assume so because you directed this to the singles/dating category. It is possible that she wonders what your intentions are and is not interested in you romantically. Or maybe your Spanish is so bad that you are asking her the wrong things in the wrong way. Maybe she is tired of the effort it takes to understand you. Maybe she worries that if she socializes w/ you too much she will loose her job or chances @ a raise. You do not know, and you will not know unless you have someone that speaks better Spanish ask her what the deal is. Good luck!

Just be nice. She works for you. All she wants to do is work. And quit standing close to her like that. She is probably a little "weirded out" by that.

Maybe she doesn't feel comfortable talking to you, since YOUR paying her, and shes working for you. She doesn't want you thinking "isnt she suppose to working not talking?" She miht think, you have better things to do, than talk to her.

i think she takes her job seriously and works to support herself and family. just leave her be and speak to her when needed.

Yes. You have the power to fire her so she is polite, but she really isn't interested.
