Hi Haseena,
I was reared a catholic, the basic belief is that God is the giver and taker of life, no man can interfere with that, contraception is a no no, abortion is also out of the question, so therefore only God (according to Roman Catholicism) has the right to interfere with the human gene.
I could go on and on but this is the basic, you should google Catholicism and see what you come up with. I am afraid I dont know the basic Muslim faith hopefully someone will point you in the right direction.
PS: next time don't leave it so late to do your assignments!!

My view as a Muslim that only God has the right to interfere with our genes. Humans doing this are playing God, which is not acceptable at all in Islam. Hope that helps!

Muslims, Jews and Christians will agree that we have only one creator.
Genesis chapter 1 v 26: And God said let us create man in our own image, after our likeness.

You are assuming that you interfere with life if you alter genes. If you cut someones leg off to save his life, are you not doing the same thing? If you transfuse someones blood over to another person to save their life, do you affect their genetic make up?
In my opinion a creator of something would only be disappointed if their work was destroyed irreparably.

We are very good at the destruction of life but not so good at the preservation of life, so long may the studies continue.

Christian opinion.

god gave man the abilities to heal and to learn and to be scientific, liberal Christians consider that stewardship of the world is what god wants from us and this includes learning to do go. Most genetic activity is aimed at health improvement or great crop productivity (to feed more people) or to save lives. Conservative Christians are concerned about the 'interference' view.

Genetic engineering is allowing people to artificially play God and influence the world around, superficially for no medical gain, just for satisfaction.
Only God can play God.

And learn how to use the caps lock button and keyboard please, you might get a better response as people will then take you seriously

(Added later, after a re-think, wasn't very loving before, I apologise)
So, as a Christian, yes God should have the right to intefere with genes, after all He did create us and came up with the genetic code, but I beleive that God has blessed scientists to do work in genetic engineering that will help people with diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis.
It just becomes a problem when scientists start to do it to get the gain of self-reward and they get the massive ego that THEY are now God and can dictate living things.

So, no, God shouldn't have sole right to our genes, just as long as the scientists who have been blessed to work in genetic science know they are helping mankind as a creation of God, and not to become a man-made god of science themselves

Sorry, I believe that only God has the right to interfere with people's homework.

She's not asking us to do her homework. She simply asked for Christian and Muslim views on the topic.

I defnitely believe only God has a right to interfere with our genes.

P.S. I'm a Christian!

I believe that if stem cell research will benefit humankind, that we should go for it. God made man, and obviously gave him an intelligent mind.....so lets put it to good use. As far as religion...I consider myself to be more spiritual than religious.

It's fine in principle but our common genetic heritage shouldn't be made into just another commodity.
