Give me your reasons why you believe that there is a God. Use the socratic method. And for the atheists that were uninvited to this forum. Ask yourself why you don't think there is a God.

I just wanted to know your views because i was simply interested. And the question was Christians and other Theists. Can you Answer this please? Notice i wanted only theists.
Ps: Please no scientific b*tching about how some theists are stupid for believing in a God. I didn't even say what my religion was. And that is my own buisness.

That old guy was right. The socratic method shouldn't be used in a answer and question format. *But for some reason* i knew some people here were going to argue about religion.
Another thing: This is a debate. Everything on religon and spirituality turns into a debate.

i believe in god
i am a spiritualist medium who communicates with spirit
these spirit are validated and proven .. through descriptions names dates etc given ..
through these validated spirit i am also able to speak with my spirit guides ..
i have also read and been taught spirit teachings through other spirit guides ...
to have all this validated and proven leaves me no doubt that spirit live on
now ...to the god question
spirit speak of god ... they speak of spirit realms ..the spirit teachings speak of god ...
so if i was to disbelieve there is a god i am disbelieving the spirit teachings and ultimately spirit itself .. which means i am disbelieving myself
so it goes hand in hand for me .. i have proof of spirit who speak of god .. so logically for me anyway .. god exists
this is the best way i can explain it and i accept not many will understand .. but i hope it helps explain why " I " believe in god
and as for the atheists .... they are as welcome and as entitled to be here as anyone else

It is a little difficult to fulfill the Socratic method or dialog without an "opposing viewpoint", right here. But if you observe in many instances there have been attempts at it throughout the YA r&s section, though not often.
I tried non-god for a while and the scientific method and I kept running into the same problem. I just could not make myself believe the world "POOFED" into existence without some primary purpose or design. I could not buy the "Big Bang" or any of the other postulates not involving a Creator.

To me, God isn't a being like most theists believe. God is a spiritual concept. God is the creator. That doesn't mean that I don't question who created God, because I do. But there had to have been something that started it all. To me that is God. I also want to add that I don't feel comfortable always using the word God because it is such a misconstrued concept. Too many negative factors included with that word. I just use the word because it's common, people understand what I mean.

The Socratic method applies to debates which are not allowed in a question and answer format. It would be considered as chatting.
I know why I believe God exists and I have no reason to debate anyone about it. It is a game of one-upmanship that is for silly school kids to engage in.
I know that when I came to know God, He changed my entire life in a way that I do not regret. That is all anyone needs to know.

I'm not sure how to use the socratic method properly, but here goes
1) is it really wise to make a judgement based on an event with a low probability?
2) is it logical to conclude that time, the personification of stop and start, had no beginning?
3) can something come from nothing?
4) does it take greater faith to believe an accident created order, or that order resulted from order?
hope that didn't confuse anyone!

Sorry, I did not read "the old guys" remarks, but it seems hard to use your Socratic method since it is to be a discourse between two people, not unlike a debate.
So, I will opt out as I have a neat opportunity to hear a speaker that was on the U.S.S Indianapolis.

I believe that a watch implies a watchmaker....
....and that this watchmaker is the product (not end-product) of Evolution.
So, no, I don't believe in God, because there are hundreds of explanations for the origin of the Universe more plausible than a sky fairy.
PS: Shouldn't you have a bouncer for uninvited guests? I'd suggest Richard D (above) gets bounced next question.
And Rockingweasel's answer fits the profile of an Atheist's answer.

Its simple logic.
1. Everything that exists must have a creator because god says so. Therefore God exists. I know you are going to ask me who created God. The answer is simple. God was not created.
2. Oh what the heck. If you don't believe God exists Jesus will torture you in hell for all eternity. Do you really want to risk that?

I don't remember what the socratic method is, but I think it would be impossible for a living cell to originate by accident, so there had to be a Creator. Also I have seen miracles.

How can their not be a God. The proof of his exitance is all around us in the sun, moon, grass, stars, sky, plants, animals and all the things around us. In the earth, which is the right size, the perfect distance from the sun , has the perfect tilt, mixture of gases to support life, and a life cycle. The earth is also has a balance of water and land not to metion light. We see design in humans. We have brains and a nerve center that store knowledge and memories plus it tell us when we are in pain. We have ears that we can hear just the right amout not to little so we could hear others talk and not to much we can hear air molucules passing through our ears. We have eyes to see plant and animals and all creation. We have a heart to pump blood throughout are body. We have lungs to breate in air.
Every part of our body has a purpose and was designed perfectly.
Do you need more reason and proof?

Because when I pray to God my prayers are answered. This is just one reason. I know that their is a God because he has made things happen that some would say were impossible. he has always taken care of me and my family.
