I thought about using tape to cover the hole but worried the tape might come off and go in the video player. Dont worry these are not copyright tapes they are home movies which for some reason have been copy protected after they were made.

Tape should be just fine...but don't use a scotch tape. Use electrical or duct tape.

Also, the copy tab has nothing to do with copyrights. The copy tab tells the VCR its ok to record on that tape. If the tab is missing then the VCR will not start recording.

If your mom finds out you have been recording over the family home movies you will discover why the tape shell has the removable tab. It has been removed to save your life.
