Okay, take the advice of a cheerleader who has been since the beginning of time! LOL..Okay, first, you need to be in amazing physical shape. The people at your gym should be conditioning you regularly, and if not, buy a magazine like American Cheerleader and follow their workouts, or sign up at a fitness gym and get someone to show you around the different machines. Second, always, always, ALWAYS stretch before you do anything. At home, sit in a straddle as far as you can while watching TV or reading. This will definitely help your toetouches. Third, make sure your jumps are sharp. Always point your toes, keep your legs straight at all times (unless the jump requires you to bend them, like in a herkie or hurtler), and always land with your head UP, not facing your knees. Fourth, make sure your motions are in tip-top shape. Always stay tight and pop all motions. As my coach always says, your arms should be aching when the cheer is done! Fifth (wow, there's a lot to cheering!) make sure you are always loud and keep your words sharp. Don't sing the cheer; such as: green, gold! Don't be like, greeeeeeeen, gooooooold, goooooo Tiiiiggeeers! Oh, and make your claps tight, as well. Sixth, yes, tumbling is a plus. If you feel scared throwing a backhandspring at tryouts, don't! This is how people hurt themselves: doing something out of fear. Ask politely for a spot and then go for it! You're already not on the squad yet, so you've nothing to lose! Also, if your grades are more like Fs, Ds, and maybe Cs (depending on coach preferences), bring those babies up! Contrary to popular opinion, cheerleaders ARE smart. Some schools require that you have good grades to be on ANY athletic teams, so now is the time! Next, always keep a positive attitude, even when times are tough. Offer to help the other girls, and fight your inner wallflower. This means volunteer to go first or demonstrate. This is a good way to impress the coach and make her remember your face, if not your name. Also, SMILE LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW! Judges don't like the goofy facials, so lay off unless they specifically tell you to do them. A smile will never go wrong. And keep eye contact with the judges at all times! Last, just have fun! Everybody is nervous; you are NOT the only one feeling pre-tryout anxiety, trust me! Even when you've already been on the same squad for a year or two, you're still nervous! If you mess up, smile and keep going or ask to start again. It really is no biggie. The judges were once in your shoes and know that you are nervous. Wow, that was a lot, but that's a treasury of everything I've heard for tryouts. You will do marvelous, I'm sure. Good luck! <3

SMILE!!!!!!! GET IN THE HABIT NOW!!!! LOL...<3

It seems like you've done a lot of work on the physical tip, and now all you need to strengthen is your confidence. Try to take a few minutes just to calm yourself before tryouts/any performances: visualize yourself landing every flip, and see yourself doing every cheer well. Remind yourself that you can do it, and that fear is only a thing of the mind. Go into those tryouts with and I Can, and I Will attitude, and don't doubt yourself. Good luck!!
