My husband and I have recently moved and I'm staying with my in-laws until he's done with training for a new job. We've been here (me and my 11wk old) for about 2 weeks, and for the last 3days he's been unusually fussy. He's usually fine when he gets up in the morning then he has crying episodes for the rest of the day. Could it have something to do with him sensing my stress? or should I take him to the doctors? Can colic start this far along? He has no other symptoms, no fever or change in pee or poop, and hes eating like normal? I don't know what it is and its hard to watch him cry like that and not know what to do about it? Anyone have any advice. 1st baby!!!!

yeah, sounds like your stress, and also sleepiness. It takes my daughter a few days to get used to places, and when I visited my in-laws over Thanksgiving, she was stressed the whole 8 days. It was miserable. (She was about 3.5 months at the time.)

Anyhow, after traveling quite a bit since then, I would advise more nap time if possible. All the new stimulation is a lot to take in for an 11 week old. Sometimes I would hold my daughter and just let her "cry it out" in my arms. Sure enough, she would be tired, but she wouldn't want to go to sleep. Is your son getting at least 14 hours of sleep? Babies that young need 14-16 hours every day, and with the new situation, he may need closer to 16. While he is asleep, try to do some relaxing things for you. Read a magazine, walk, take a bubble bath, or whatever to de-stress. Sometimes, it takes awhile for it all to catch up with them, so even though you have been there for 2 weeks, it may just now be catching up with him.

It also may be muscle pain if he is being passed around a lot. Babies' muscles get sore just like adults do after a workout. It doesn't take much to workout for them, though, because they have never used any muscles at all. Try a warm bath for that.

If none of that works, I would definitely take him to the pediatrician to be safe.

Good luck! I know fussy babies are hard to deal with!
