My mother has a business, I was told to setup an answering machine for times when the business is closed. I would like to know what the device would be called as well. Please refrain from telling me to use an answering machine and pull the tape out or delete messages or to pause for several seconds after the recording for when the answering machine picks up. Thank you.

That isn't true, i would like it to be able to tell who is calling the regular store hours. Imagine its closed, someone calls after noone is there, i want them to know when our store is open... in this case what would a caller ID do for me?

That would defeat the entire purpose of an "answering" machine. Just get a caller ID device so you can see who called.

You simply want to give people your name, location and hours of service (or something to that effect)
What I would look for would be a computer based software that answers the phone. That way you have many more options. I am pretty sure if you purchased one from a reputable company that option would be there but read to be sure before the purchase.
I do not think a standard machine would be a good option but if that is what you still want best of luck finding it. I will be watching this question to see if someone comes thru for you.

Most answering machines have an Announce (or Greeting) Only option on them. Usually it is in the area of the manual where you choose how long the caller can record. Often the choices are 3 min, 1 min, and Announce (Greeting) Only. Just choose the Announce (Greeting) Only selection.
