The 30-06 is a class act, the 30-06 has taken more big game with one shot kills then any other caliber.
I would advise a Quality bullet of strong construction like.
***If you reload***
1= Nosler Partition @ 200gr or 180gr as the minimum.
2= Barnes Triple Shock X-Bullet @ 180gr this is a solid copper bullet that retains 98% of weight after impact, not like the lead/copper mix that drops from 12 to 18 % of weight due to fragmentation that why I listed only the 180gr, it’s performance will duplicate the 200gr lead/copper mix and fly like a 180gr, to me the all around best hunting bullet made.

***Factory loaded ammo***
1= Federal 180gr TSX ( Barnes Triple Shock X-Bullet )
Federal 200gr or 180gr NP ( Nosler Partition )
Federal 200gr or 180gr TB ( Trophy Bonded Bear Claw)

You don’t need any Magnums. When the 30-06 has taken everything in North America and most of Africa with a clean I shot kill.

Moose have been hunted and killed successfully with even the 30-30 Winchester, more times then I would like to thank about.
It all in shot placement, all the magnums in the world wont help you if you don’t shoot well.
I would never hesitate to take my 30-06 after any thing in North America.

that’s my opinion and advise.
I hope it was of some use.

.30-06 is great for moose, I have taken 4 with it. The best kill for moose is a heart/lung shot and it doesn't take a lot to put a bullet there. .243 - .300 calibers are plenty big. Everything depends on how good of a shot you are, as well as the distance you are shooting. The new browning .325 is a beautiful rifle, it has the impact of a cannon (overkill) with long range excellence. The old '06 is an all-round great rifle. I have used it on everything we have up here in Canada, from wolves to grizzly and never once was I worried about it being too small.

30-06 is good. I have a .308 and it's good and smaller than the 30-06. If you are moose hunting for the first time, let me give you a hint. The sinus cavity on the moose is right between the eyes, so don't aim there as it will not kill it, but piss it off and if you've ever seen a moose, they are easy to anger. Good luck.

the 30-06 will work fine for moose, alot of people will tell you that it is too small, but it will get the job done, just get a heavier grained bullet and it will perform just as well as the 300 or the 7mm if not better. stick with it, theres no need to buy a bigger caliber unless you are wanting to. than go for it by all means. but just zero the 30-06 in and know where its shooting and get confident with it.

A 338 Win. Mag. is a good choice for those big boned monsters, though I've never had a problem with my Browning A-bolt Medallion chambered in a 7mm Rem. Mag.
Another option is the new WSM 325 or Remington's 300 Ultra Mag. and I have not heard or read much on these rounds myself.

Good luck and good hunting.

This also depends alot on what you use for ammunition almost as much as the gun i wouldnt go any smaller than a .270 for sure anything larger and how large you wanna go is entirely up to you. I have used a federal bullet in my .300 that is load with a barnes triple shock bullet. This bullet is simply amazing, expensive but amazing you will not be sorry shooting this out of your gun. I assure with the utmost confidence that my your .30-06 loaded with a 165 or so grain barnes triple shock would outperform a .300 mag loaded with a normal JHP hands down. This bullet provides so much expansion and retrain so much bullet weight the results are amazing.

Yep, 30-06 is fine. Most rifle rounds around that power, ie. .308 and up are fine.

A buddy of mine took a moose a few years back, he was using a beauty yugoslavian k98 in 7.92 and it was a clean kill.

.30-06 is perfect, although you may want to move to one of the flatter trajectory rounds if you are doing long shots.

MOOSE ROUNDS:
30-06, .308 Winchester, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 300 Weatherby Mag, 7mm Weatherby Mag
