Can I develop this ability? If so how? Or do you have to be born with it?

Everyone is born with the ability to receive messages from spirits; however not everyone DEVELOPS those abilities, so they never fully receive or understand the messages that they receive. You should pick a quiet time each day to sit and meditate with your guides, light a candle and even some incense if you have some and just try to sit still and be quiet, and little by little each day you will start to see signs of spiritual activity and you will even start to receive messages from the spirits, provided you are open to receiving them. It might seem weird at first, and you might even think that you are hearing or seeing things-but you're not, they are trying to reach you!
Two great books that help you to get in touch with your spirit guides and your spirituality are :
(1) Sylvia Browne's 'Ask Your Spirit Guides' and
(2) Sonia Choquette's "Trust Your Spirit Guides"
Both of the books are excellent! Whatever you do, keep an open mind and give it time-it doesn't happen immediately or overnight...but it will come if you want it to.

One of them is what we normally call as intuition and everyone is equipped with that. Some are acutely responsive, some have but not consistent, some would ignore it as coincidental or accidental thought. You can develop that by recording anything that pops out of your mind and constantly paying attention to first impression. It may not be accurate at first and even most of the time but if you will record it, then you may see the average between right and wrong premonitions. Practice will make it perfect. How long it will take you to fully develop your gift depends on your ability to understand every premonition.

You're right, you don't have any mystical powers. No one does.
You can't receive messages from the "spirit world".
It's all complete nonsense.
Think about it logically.

find your closest spiritualist meeting place and go with an open mind.
my first time i went with a friend and we deliberately chose a place where no one would know us, at first we wondered what on earth we were doing when she got a message.....this wa enough to convince me, now i was a very close friend and (thought) i knew everything about her yet i got a couple of suprises, how could these strangers know such things?
i was also told i had the 'power' and i would make a good healer, maybe i would have but i could never open my mind and lose my apprehension.
these people will give you hints on how to develop

A couple of ways of looking at that, one is it is a gift from God and you hear His voice. If you hear other spirits, then it is demonic and you don't want it. In either case in our world today mentioning that you hear voices from the spirit world will get you locked up and given some very fine and expensive medications.
It seems no one really wants to hear a Word from God now a days.

Hello Pinkspar you are right when you say some people are born with it. And other people can develop it. Go to your nearest Spiritualist Church and you will be surprised
People from all walks of life attend, Doctors, Lawyers, Business men, and everybody who is interested In the Psychic Just go and make up your own mind.

Pray to the Father, who is in heaven, for guidance, then remember your dreams. When you get a message from God in your dream, they will come by two's. They will seem totally separate from each other, but they are not. One will show the actions of another and one will show your actions. Your heart must be one with God, or you will not be able to figure out the message. Remember God is Love.

The spirit world is above the earth world and it makes you feel good, but the earth world will seek it and turn it to BORING darkness.
