As long as you go to a proper studio and follow proper aftercare, those things are highly unlikely.

After finding the right piercer, you need proper aftercare. Rinse 2-3 times daily with a sea salt solution, avoid mouthwash (irritates fresh piercings), avoid oral contact with others (no kissing, oral sex) for at least 8 weeks.

There are no statistics kept on those issues as far as I know. But it's simple to look around at the number of people who have tongue piercings and have not had any complications.

I had my tongue pierced 7 years ago and mine was okay when I had it done. It didn't get infected and I could still taste fine. The biggest problem was that I couldn't eat properly for almost a week and had a bit of a lisp but that eventually went. The tongue is the cleanest part of the body because of the salavia so I don't think infections are very common. You just have to make sure that you visit the piercing place a couple of times before you actually have it done and make sure that everything like the needle comes from a packet. Also I went somewhere where someone I knew had been so I had another opinion on what they thought of the place.

DON'T DO IT!!!! I awake at 4am right now because I just woke up with a GINORMOUS blood clot in my mouth and I'm holding a wash rag to my mouth until this bleeding stops. I woke up and I had something chewy in my mouth. I new it wasn't gum so I got up and went to the bathroom. When I opened my mouth the huge clot fell out and was attached to the bottom of my tongue. I freaked out and took out the ring and detached the clot. Got some salt water and was gently swishing it to get all of the remaining blood pieces out of my mouth. My mouth was blood red and the it would not stop bleeding. I just got mine pierced on Sunday and by Tues my tongue was bruised and swollen, (this is the second time I had this done and the first time I never got any bruising). So i knew something was up. I went to 3 different piercers and checked them out. Got a great referral from this one and he claimed to be a "Master Piercer". Well I have blood all over my pillow and tee-shirt that say different. I would definitely think twice. I could be sleeping right now,but nooo I had to get my tongue pierced a few days ago and I'm bleeding like crazy!!!

I've had my tongue pierced for 8 years now and I've never had a problem. Just make sure that where ever you go is licenced, clean and all equipment is sterilized (it should come out of a sealed package in front of your eyes). Once it is done, make sure you listen to whatever advice they give you when it comes to caring for the piercing. I used Listerine after I ate or drank anything other than water, even after every cigarette. For the first 3 days all I can say is, drink ICE cold drinks to help with the swelling .

It has no longer something to do with orientation, real some do it for giving yet another female excitement like men do, yet i be attentive to alot of on the instant ladies with tongue piercings...a piercing or tattoo can not teach if somebody is gay or no longer.
