I know its been up here in Scotland for a while now but I haven't noticed people smoking on tv. It will be more obvious when it comes in force in England. Will Pat and Dot still smoke in Eastenders?

I know we can't get harmedWATCHIN G them smoke, my question is that the set is obviously a place of work inside with crew around so does that mean they won't be able to smoke!

These days there's hardly any smoking seen on TV. I am now 65 years old and can assure you that in my misbegotten youth there was a great deal of smoking seen on TV including TV ads for cigarettes. It was quite common for example for guests on chat shows to smoke on camera.

Perhaps the BBC will want to set a good example and put Pat and Dot on a smoking ban or show them wearing patches.

They can use "fake" cigarettes - ones which don't containe nicotine.

Although they will not be able to smoke in the Queen Vic etc. to reflect the new laws in England.

Smoking ban is the best thing ever here in Scotland, you can come home at night and not stink like an ashtray!

As long as they are in their own homes or outside, then there is no legal problem with showing someone smoking. You can't passive smoke through the TV screen.

They won't be able to smoke as the sets are classed as places of work.

my understanding is that if the smoking is actually required for the performance then it will be allowed but otherwise it isn't. This includes rehersals. That might just be stage performances though

I don't know about that. However, does is strike you as strange how much time and money goverment spends to stop smoking, which takes approx 10 yrs off of you life expectancy, while they go out of their way to do nothing about discouraging homosexual activity, which will cut your life expectancy about 35 yrs. Welcome to the world of political-correctness!

No, I think it is still legal for you to climb inside your television set for a smoke.
