Earthquakes at the ocean floor are the cause of tsunamis. Earthquakes are a sudden shift of earths plates. When this happens undersea, the shifting of the earth's crust causes the tsunami wave.

Tsunamis can also be caused by large landslides dumping a large amount of earth into the sea.

Common: they cant affect the people on airplanes, they can cause the presidents of many countries losing money, they can cost many people's lives.
Differences: One can be man-made (tsunamis) and the other one is natural, One mostly occurs on land (earthquake) if it occur in water den it causes tsunami on the ocean.

both are movements of the earths crust
the tsunamis are under water ,on the sea bottom the ripple sets the destructive tidal wave in motion.
