If you can't afford to see the doctor... get a hot compress and put on it... pressing/squeezing at times. It could be the start of a boil. Do this as often as you can during the day. That's my suggestion. I had a boil on the base of my neck... this is what my PA told me to do, the next day it burst wide open.. yuck.. but it did the job.

The pain indicates an infection like a boil. Don't squeeze it yet, you'll only make it worse. Depending on how deep it is, it may be best to go to a dermatologist in about a week. They have the equipment to take care of it properly with minimal or no scarring. Don't worry, whatever happens, almost certainly there will be no scar 6 months from now. The dermatologist visit should be just under $100.
If you have a steady hand and trust yourself, after a week you could try performing your own surgery, or having someone you trust do it. Most people would advise against it of course, but this is what I would do (in a week or more):
You need:
unused razor blade
matches
long super thin needle
rubbing alcohol & tissue or cotton ball
peroxide
Neosporin
band-aid
Sterilize the boil with rubbing alcohol. Sterilize the needle and the corner of the razor blade with a lit match. If you think you can do the job with a needle, try it first. Just one try. Never squeeze too hard at any time during this process. That's the main mistake people make with acne and boils. You're looking for a pretty easy squeeze. Squeezing hard will only make it bigger, more infected, and longer lasting, I promise.
If the needle alone isn't enough, find the best place for an incision. Sometimes the best place is not right on top, but more to the side. You have to make that call. Poke firmly with the blade to make a 1/4" incision. You may have to wiggle it a bit if your skin is really thick and the infection is deep. Try to get the pus out completely. If it doesn't work after one incision, don't try again at that time! Leave it alone for another few days, then try it again. Don't irritate it or you'll make the problem bigger, literally.
Flush the open wound with peroxide several times, then put Neosporin on it. Put the band-aid on kind of tightly (like a butterfly bandage) to seal and hold the wound tightly together. Don't touch it or remove the band-aid until the next day.
If after three weeks you can't get to it, you should see a dermatologist. They can take care of it in about three minutes, and assure that it's just a simple boil. Good luck. I know I don't have to tell you to be careful.

I would get myself to the doctor...while it may be an ingrown hair it could be something more serious....a friend of mine got a bump like you describe on his neck...it would not go away..at first it appeared to be just tissue under the skin..but the doctor cut it off and autopsied it for cancer...thankfully it wasn't...but much better safe than sorry.

It sounds like cystic acne. Because it is close to your eyes and nose where there are a lot of links to the brain, I would have a doctor or nurse practitioner open it.

It's better to be safe than sorry; go see a doctor immediately. Especially if its painful.
