My husband and I are looking to adopt we are two loving people who want a child to make our family complete. Due to infertility issues we cannot conceive. We want to give the child we adopt a great life and yet we cannot afford 20,000 plus to adopt a child. U can do a lot with that kind of money for the child!

The thing is I can come up with 20,000 but I find it is ridiculous to pay that much money when there are so many children in need of a home. I can afford to raise a child how many ppl spend 20,000 in one day ona child.. this is not how life really works.. over the course of a few years yes i can see the 20,000 mark being reached spent on kids.

As a foster parent of 15 years experience:

Yes, go to Social Services/Child Protective Services in your city/county...they will get you into a foster/adopt program.

But let me give you some very important clues.

First, get the very youngest child you can. Preferably an infant. The older ones are precious too, but generally come with some unhappy baggage...child abuse, sexual abuse, screaming drugged out parents...If you really want to consider an older child, be foster parents for a while so you get to see what the system is like and which case workers you can trust and some sense of what the child has experienced before you adopt.

Second, don't be naiive. Some parents want to continue a relationship with their baby. Can you handle that? Some parents don't...but it's good to know where you both stand on this issue going into an adoption...it's one of those things that adopting from overseas makes easier..

Third..be prepared for a case study. A social worker will come to your house for a series of interviews before, during and after the adoption. Lots of questions will be asked about your family, your mental health, medical, financial, etc etc...it is being looked at through a microscope..but you should know it goes with the territory.

Finally, good luck! Building a family this way is a great thing...and always let your child know they were adopted from the start. It saves endless headaches when they hit their teenage years...and "who they are" is such an important question..try to keep as much info about birth parents as possible and realize they will always want to know the whys and wherefores...it won't make them love you any less...

Adopt locally! Foreign adoptions are a scam. They are basically baby mills selling children for cash. The amount of money you spend for an overseas adoption is likely more money than that family makes it 2-3 years.

Local adoption are beneficial for a majority of reasons. You help children right here in the US. Most states offer special programs to help you such as paying for attorney's fees, future college expenses, medical and dental care etc.

There are so many good reasons to NOT adopt from overseas. People like you can be easily taken advantage of during an emotional time like this. Some people will pay anything and do.

Adopt locally! Help a child in your own state! You'll be a blessing to them!

God Bless!

Do foster to adopt. It's much less expensive. However, if you can't afford to pay the $20K, are you sure you can provide for the child?

Contact your local CPS, Child Protective Services, and they will tell you all about the foster to adopt program. It's difficult, but so is every avenue to adopt. There's training involved. I know of 2 families close to me who have adopted through this. They both say it's worth it.

if you don't have insurance, it costs that much to give birth with all the bills and such... so it is in line with what having a child costs. I would say start saving up $$... if having a child is what you desire most.... the $$ shouldnt be the issue... finding a child to love and care for should be the issue at hand... and doing all you can so that will happen is your next step.

1. consider foster adoptions. this is free.
2. private adoption is available for much less, especially if you can welcome a child with medical risks.
3. remember you will recoup at least 10,960 dollars from Uncle Sam
4. When approaching an agency tell them the max you can spend so that they can only offer you appropriate situations
