Are you ready to have a child and a dog at the same time? Is the girl ready?

Be sure to make a responsible decision, and not buy from pet stores or breeders; these places and people thrive on the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of animals.

The only cruelty-free way to get a pet is from a shelter. Visit a local humane society. This will also make it far less expensive.

Why do you think you need a pug? Does breed matter? Do you discriminate against types of people as well? It's the same concept.

Most pugs are great for kids. Males are cheaper to neuter though and you should consider this. Research this breed though before you get a pug, they snore a lot and also have some health issues you may not want to deal with. And they shed.. a LOT.

The sexof the dog isn't an issue since either one should be spayed/neutered. The important thing is the health and temperament of the dog. Males can be every bit as sweet and affectionate as any female. Temperament depends more on "nature and nurture" than sex of the dog.

The temperment is definately important. I find that males are a little more easy going but not easy to bond with, but I find females can get jealous of their owner's attention.
Either way if you have the dog fixed early in it's life, it shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Males and females are both good. Females tend to be more serious not as boisterous as males. Females are usually best for small kids.

Both are great. There are gentle males, hyper females, vice-versa, and everything in-between. It depends on the individual dog's personality, not the gender. If it is to be her dog, I would let her pick. It might let her feel closer to it.

It doesn't really matter. Both sexes are great. Do get it spayed or neutered so you don't deal with heats, wandering off, or unwanted puppies.
