It may seem a trite answer, but faith in God will make you more pious. But, by faith I mean the following:
Faith commences with the conviction of the mind based on adequate evidence; faith continues in the confidence of the heart or emotions based on conviction, and faith is crowned in the consent of the will, by means of which the conviction and confidence are expressed in conduct.
Key points:
Conviction of the Mind
Confidence of the Heart
Consent of the Will
Conduct of the Body
As you can see from the above, faith affects the whole of a person's nature. Even the demons *believe*. Belief is not enough. Many may claim to be Christians, but we know from the scriptures that many are called, but few are chosen:
Mat 7:16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Mat 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.
Mat 7:18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.
Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?'
Mat 7:23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.' (ESV Translation)
Faith without works is dead, just as the fig tree cursed by Christ when it did not bear fruit (Mt. 21:19). By a Christian's fruit you will know their true nature.
Non-believers cannot adequately reason the revelations of God in the world around them, nor in the written revelations of God, the bible. Their eyes have been closed to the truth because they are unwilling to still their minds and hear the call of the Holy Spirit to God's grace.
2Co 4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing.
2Co 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Instead, they are given over to their own devices, seeking the “truth” within themselves where no real truth can be found:
2Ti 3:2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,
2Ti 3:4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
2Ti 3:5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
God's foreknowledge of the choices we will make in this life is the reason for these conditions. An omnipotent God cannot make a morally free person who is incapable of consciously choosing to sin. Thus there will be those that with full knowledge of God's revelation who will choose to reject His divine mercy. This is the unforgivable sin.
We know from the scriptures that few will be called to righteousness. The John 3:16 of the bible is not for everyone, but only for those God has called to be His elect whom were chosen before the creation of the universe.

Read John 3, the whole chapter. Jesus said that to see the Kingdom of God you must be born again.
God so loved the world that He sent His Only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but will inherit ever lasting life.
Whosoever confesses Jesus Christ Lord and believes in their heart that He raised from the dead will be saved. For with the mouth confession is made unto righteousness (Christ righteousness) and with the heart ones believes unto Salvation (honest faith in Gods Truth).
Some of those TV ones are true born again Christians. Some aren't. But you need God for discernment. And to criticize a true man/woman of faith called of God for that ministry is a dangerous thing to do.

You have to believe in god and believe that Jesus was your savior. Ask for forgiveness and then go and talk to a pastor at a local church to help you with becoming a christian. Really though you don't need a church to become a christian just do the right things and follow god's word.

Read these verses. I think they will help you
Genesis 3:15
Isaiah 53
Isaiah 9:6
Galatians 2:20
Romans 3:23-25
Luke 13:3
Revelation 3:19-20
John 3:5
So, First realize that Jesus came so we could have fellowship with the Father, our Creator. Then understand that it's JESUS that allows us to HAVE FORGIVENESS and fellowship in God's eyes. Repent from the drinking womanizing, and stealing, or other evil things you know are in your life. If you have TROUBLE with any area of sin, you have a Savior, JESUS, that you can PRAY to, and CALL ON HIS NAME, to TAKE those things that are in your life, that would come between you and a relationship with the Father. Then go get Baptized, partake of the Supper, REALIZING that Jesus paid for your sins, and you HAVE to have Jesus' blood for salvation. Then SHOUT HIS NAME FROM THE MOUNTAIN tops!! Tell EVERYONE you know that Jesus is LORD of YOUR life!!
I DID!! EVERY BIT of that, and MORE!! And WOW!! God MOVES in your LIFE!! God MOVES!! PERIOD!!

The only way to become a Christian is through Christ. You must go to Him in prayer, acknowledging that you are a sinner, and that you believe that he died for your sins, and is indeed the Son of God. Pray for forgiveness, and acknowledge that He is your Lord and Savior. If you pray this, and believe it in your heart, you will be saved. However, it is up to you to continually seek Him after that. It's very hard to follow someone you don't know much about, so talk to Him, read the Bible, surround yourself with people who will help and encourage you to grow. If you seek after Jesus with all your heart, mind, and strength, He will honor your diligence, and you will find him. IM me if you want to talk more about this.

If you want to be a Christian all you have to do is ask Jesus to come and live in your heart and forgive your sins. Here is what you can pray:
-"Dear Lord God I ask that you will save me from my sins so that I can spend eternity with you in heaven. I ask you to come and live in my heart so that you will become part of me. Please forgive me for all that I have done wrong. Amen."
If you want to be Godly you should read your bible and pray everyday. Praying is just like talking to God. You and I can talk to God about everything. Anything at all. If you have any questions, be sure to e-mail me. Bless you so much! My new sister/brother in Christ!! I will see you in heaven!
P.S. I pray a blessing over you right now that you will grow deep in the spirit and become more like Jesus.
P.P.S. You may want to go to a church sometime.

First, be a follower of Christ, read only the Living Word of God, the 4 Gospels. Live your life through the teaching of Jesus Christ.
Know the 75 Commandments of Jesus Christ by heart, not by chapter or verse, but by your heart.
Be baptized in a river. Call on the Holy Ghost
The Holy Ghost is the Angel Michael, and he has the power to bring Light to Darkness and Darkness to Light, without offending God the Father, which is in heaven. The Holy Ghost is a gift and is offered to believers, to receive this gift you must ask for it and then take it.
Go into your closet close the door, and confess your sins, ask for forgiveness, and believe you've received it, in the name of Jesus Christ
Pray to the Father, which is in heaven, and in spirit and in truth, in the name of Jesus Christ. Ask for your gift, the Holy Ghost, believe it and take it.
The Holy Ghost will come to you in your dreams, and bring messages from the Father, which is in heaven. You must ponder on these dreams until they are revealed unto you.
This is why you can not sin against the Holy Ghost, without Him you can not talk to God or Jesus.
If there is something God has revealed unto you but you can not understand, call on Gabriel, the Spirit of truth. To gain the spirit of truth you must stay in the Word of God, the words spoken by Jesus Christ 7 hours per day, for 40 days. On the 41st day you will be given understanding.
Do not go to false christ, a false christ is listening to anyone other then Jesus, Judge them by their fruit, You will recognize the words if they are of God the Father, who is in heaven, or by their name, if they come in their own name, or in the name of someone other then Jesus then you are not to believe them.

1. I must realize that in my present condition I am a sinner before God. "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3.23.)
2. I cannot save myself from eternal punishment in hell "For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord: (Romans 6:23)
3. Christ has paid for my sins and my punishment with His death on the cross. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him (Jesus should not perish, but have everlasting life: "(John 3:16)
4. I must accept His crucifixion as payment for my sins, personally. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13)
If you would like to have assurance of eternal life, then pray this prayer: "Lord, I know I am a sinner. I believe Your Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me of my sins and make me a new person. I commit my life to you today. Amen,"
If you prayed this prayer you can send for Dr. Stanley's booklet, "The Only Door to Heaven." www.intouch.org.
When you are saved, you are sealed with God's Holy Spirit for eternity. You cannot loose your salvation because you are now adopted into the family of God.
It is important to find a bible teaching church and become part of the body of Christ to help you grow in your walk with the Lord. Read the Bible daily.

First off, not every tv preacher is fake. And, the only way to be a true Christian is to be one. A Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ, thats all thru the Bible, You must believe in Him, accept Him into your heart, as your own saviour, and live to be like Him, You must love Him enough to obey, and know He is your example in all things. That God says obedience leads to blessings and disobedience leads to curse. Thats in the Bible... Read it for yourself. You must desire to be like Jesus, walk like Him, talk like Him, think like Him and do what He says to do and the things He says to leave alone, you are glad to leave alone. Thats a Christian. Its not someone just going to church and wearing that label. Going to church is fine, but church doesnt save you, and not going wont cast you out. Read all that only GOd has to say in His word and you will see. Jesus saves, and is the only way to go. The devil will say you cant be like Him, more lies of the devil. God wouldnt require it , if it werent possible, But we do it by staying in the will of God and His strength gets us to full victory in Jesus. amen Choose HIim today. and for those you think are fake, just pray.. maybe they can learn from you and others that truly become true Christians. but many of the tv Christian preachers are really real, you just may not know enough yet to see truth, full Bible truth. Study and pray and you will not be deceived.

The book of John (4th book of the NT) would be a good place to start reading. Then read it again.
Acts and Romans are two others that are great and easy reads.
Reading the Bible, studying it...and pray. You will be well on your way.
