A culture which cannot stand outer influence deserves being extinguished. Jazz and rock were forms of expression despised and ostracized. Today they are accepted as important cultural forms.
As for religion, as Humberto Eco said, it is a form of belief that in two or three centuries will be recalled as a mere superstition

Ego, ignorance and such are more of a threat because they grab at religions to either wield as a weapon or an excuse to further an agenda.
