Your knuckles will bleed. You can break any number of bones in your hands. You can develop bursitis, arthritis, tendinitis, sprained wrists, sprained hands. When those thin 2" by 180" hand wraps are wrapped properly around your wrists and hands it affords an abundance of support and protection. If fighters that make their living in the sport of boxing always use hand wraps and training gloves when in training, it must be the correct thing to do.

OMS ~
You can peel the skin off your knuckles, which would cause more down time. There is a high probability that you can get a "Boxers Fracture" when your break your hand like this the down time can be six to eight weeks, and if you break your hand chances are you'll end up with arthritis down the road. The wraps help keep your hand in a tight fist and if by chance you don't keep a tight fist they help with the impact of the blow. There would be less room in the glove with wraps on. If you gloves without wraps there's a space between your fist and the liner and padding of the gloves. Boxers have been wearing these things for close to a hundred years for a reason. I almost forgot to write about the tape, make sure you use athletic tape too, this will also help with a nice tight fist.
Thanks for the question OMS

Basically, the hand wrap acts as a brace to help keep your fist and wrist/forearm aligned so that you don't break your wrists. Nerve damage can occur if you're punching the heavy bag without this added protection. I tried it once and my hands wouldn't stop shaking until the next day. If you notice, boxers wrap AND tape their hands because they will be executing incredible force when punching (the gloves give more encouragement since the boxer doesn't fear hurting his hands). Plus, the angles in which punches can be thrown (specifically the hooks and the upper cuts) can increase the chance of breaking something.
Hope this was helpful. Remember, safety first. Always.

Try It!!! No, Just Kidding. it will tear your hands up, your knuckles will become raw and bleed. most punching bags are made of canvas and are rough to the touch and if hit without hand wraps will wear on your hands like sandpaper.( I know from experience) My heavy bag came in a week before my hand wraps and I was impatent.

The purpose of hand wraps is to keep your hand in a "clenched fist" position. It's easier on the knuckles and prevents wrist injuries as well.

After a while your knuckles will bleed. Overtime that will begin to build up a scab and a callus. You will probably have scar tissue there years later if you reopen the scabs while they are still healing. Not a bad plan actually if you plan on bare knuckle boxing because it builds up a little padding. Also chicks dig scars!

Its a bad idea, and dont let your ego or these other fools answering your question fool you. Its dosent do anything but hurt. You wont be a stronger fighter or better one. Put wraps on.
