So many ideas of afterlife...
To start, you'd find more eloquent, educated, and accurate answers if you went to the library.
I might also consult a maximally objective, well-studied (history/humanities/theology) and stable-minded person who acknowledges spiritual phenomenon. Not so much for their "answers," but for their knowledge-base from which to provoke unbiased, unprejudiced "answers" within yourself.
Most importantly, contemplate. Be opened and ready.
Overall, verify everything beyond your current understanding. Check sources, investigate/empathize perceptions, and resist deceptive/delusioned/close-minded beliefs, whatever you hear or feel. Common sense helps too...especially for anyone who is outrageously stubborn or believe's they know, don't know, or can't know the truth. :)
On Yahoo Answers, with such an expansive range of people scattered along the IQ spectrum, you'll probably just get a lot of stupid rhetoric and anecdotal musings that might only reinforce what you already firmly believe--or state in your question anyway. You might get some good, simple, and profound advice if you FAIRLY discriminate users responses while you're HONESTLY searching.
All have fallen short of the Glory of God, but it doesn't have to be gory. There are options to have it quite glorious...hopefully blessings don't offend you.

Fire in the Bible is not literal but symbolic for total destruction, meaning that the wicked ones will be cut off from existence. When something is burned, nothing is left of it, it has no remains. Yes it is true that God is a happy God and also that God is love. Hellfire is not a biblical doctrine, but is man made, ( misused) to mislead people. These people that teach this doctrine are a big part of Satan's plan to mislead people from worshipping the true God.
1 John 4:8 "He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love"
Job 34:10 "Far be it from the [true] God to act wickedly,
And the Almighty to act unjustly!"
Psalms 37: 9-11 "9 For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance peace.

Burn innnnnnn? I think the correct answer is burn from desire.
Because we were given a chance to be with, and see God, it would be like missing a vacation plane with those we love, family and friends and we would never see them again. If that happened to us we would burn with endless depression of; discouragement, damning ourselves, desire to be on it and a great sense of failure.
So choosing to miss God's promise of something in a place called paradise would be a bad mistake. If God was a pilot he would have the door open as he took off because of his high expectations for us to; please come with him even if it is in the last minute of take off.
We have the chance to everlasting life and if we fail we would be lost and fearful. We would be standing on the tarmac without a soul or anything in existince. What a hopeless feeling, burning in our spirit, knowing we were wrong and didn't ask for forgiveness.
God forgives everything. Yesterday is gone and God forgives it all. Just ask Jesus to forgive and through his cross it is ALL forgiven. Now today is today so do better and love your neighbor as yourself.
If you love God and neighbor as yourself and forgive, he will send you an E-ticket to your brain and it will stay there unless you don't want it anymore. But if you chose it will get you on the ride of your afterlife. hw

God cries everyday: He looks down and see's His creations rejecting Him, only because they cannot comprehend the meaning of faith.
They go on about their lives like He never exists. Thinking they can do it themselves.
My schools Chaplin said this:
So I had twisted my ankle and my dad was carrying me, then I began to hit and scream at him, he asked what i was doing and i told him, that i wanted to walk on my own. So he put me down and the first step i took on my own i fell:
God wants to hold us, but only we can let Him, He will not force it on us because He wants us to love Him. To believe without having to see. And yet here we are walking on our own, falling but still rejecting the help of the Father:
He can make our time here worth the while, but all we have to do is accept and believe. Open our eyes and know that He is there, go against the grain and become the Men and Women that God wants, That is all it takes and no one will ever have to burn again....

Hey yippy! Then why live in a country that punishes criminals! And while you're at it why have neighbors that punish their kids! Why live on a planet that punishes people for doing wrong? See how your question sounds. God Is Holy! He Is Righteous in His jugement! You are dust in the wind! God gives man the choice through His Mercy! Don't blame God for your choices!

John 8:24
"I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins."
John 3:16-21
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."
2 Peter 3:9
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

Not to know Him, not to worship Him, and not to love Him is the real fire and burning in Hell comes next i suffering. Did you get the point, this is the truth which you may laugh from it now but sure you will cry when you discover it but too late. He doesn't burn us, we burn ourselves.

Hell, hades and sheol are mankind's grave. A fiery hell was created by religious leaders wanting to keep their laity in line. Don't blame God for their deception. There is no such thing as eternal fiery torment. Don't fall for the hype. Its not God's fault that the clergy has lied.

Well, technically it's not him that's doing the burning, and people worship him because they want him to not let them get burned.
