I think 9 is a good age, at least you know he won't be standing at the back crying because he wants his mommy!

I think CJ has the best answer. 9 is too old, I have seen older children do the ring bearer/flower girl roles and honestly only the girls enjoy doing it, the boys are usually the one that fight tooth and nail to not have to do it. There is such a think as too old or too young, the advice of 4-8 is the best age range for this type of job and even 8 for a ring bearer might be pushing it a bit. Make him a Jr groomsman if you want, but I would imagine that he would hate that role just as much as a ring bearer role. He would probably be more inclined to sit and play his game boy during the ceremony rather than take part. from age 8-14 boys are kind of little jerks (even my nephew who is the sweetest most awesome kid I know, who is 10 is a bit of a punk. thats just the way boys are). I would talk to him (preferably without his mom in the room because moms usually are the ones who push these kids into doing it) and see what he says. Phrase it like this "Zack, would you want to do something in our wedding?" Whatever he says will be the truth, at 9 years old they still have the capacity to tell you the truth without caring about your feelings. Then you can work with the answer he gives.

Good luck

No I dont think 9 is too old. I think as boys are predominently immature as a whole so that you can use a much older boy than sometimes you would use a girl. The only problem you might run into is him not being a willing participant as he may feel too old. Try and convince him that it is okay for him to be a ring bearer and if you cant talk him into it he can be an usher

No I think 9 is just fine. When people stick little babies as the ring bearer the kids have no clue what to do. A 9 year old would fulfill that job perfectly.

I would make him a groomsman 9 year old's don't like the cutesy rolls of ring bearer or flower girl.He still can be the one with the ring if you want but, stay away from the pillow let him carry it in a manly box.

There is no set age. Generally the ring bearer is a small child and sometimes the child is to young and immature to handle the task. I would rather see a child a little older and everything go smoothly.

Hello Susan,
The minimum age that most societies accept seems to be 4
years, but there doesn't appear to be an upper age limit. I
have personally seen several ring-bearers over 21. Your ring-
bearer could be any reliable age you deem appropriate.

Ring bearers should be between 2-5 years old ... a 9 year old boy is far too old. At that age he would be considered a junior groomsman.

Not necessarily. At least at the age of 9, that child will understand what's expected of him. A lot of couples pick children who are way too young, resulting in them not walking in the right direction, or getting tired of standing, etc. If the 9 year old doesn't feel it's too childish for him, then by all means, it's fine.

Dont ever go by what people tell you is the status quo. The ring bearer should be whoever you want it to be. yeah, usually its someone that looks younger, but age has nothing to do with it. Let it be whoever you want to accompany you on this special day.
