My friend Amy told another friend, Becky who is a new mother, that I "hate kids" after Becky told Amythat I wanted to meet Becky's new baby boy. Becky was kind about the statement, but I was hurt since that is a cruel thing, in my mind, to say to a new mother and to state something false about me.

I am not a mother and no, I do NOT dislike children. I want to know...would you, a parent, be offended if you were told that someone you know "hates kids"??

Thanks:)

If the person is mature enough they won't listen to what the other person has to say. I would apologize for the insensitive way the friend made the statement but you don't have to be sorry for your feelings. I love my children, but I can't stand other people's kids for long periods of time. Gets me out of the babysitting call list so I am happy about that! So, to answer your question, no, as a parent I would not be offended at a general statement -- now if someone said, I can't stand your kids, then we might have to scrap :)

If Becky trusts Amy, she might think that you've been two-faced about her pregnancy & new baby for some reason, but if she really knows you, she'll know that Amy's talking out her backside.

Amy is obviously not your friend. It sounds like she's trying to get Becky to favor herself over you, by making it look like you aren't going to fit into Becky's new life as a mother. You should choose whether you want to confront or ignore this problem between Amy and yourself, but definitely do NOT consider her to still be one of your "friends". Focus on making sure you & Becky are straight.

Good luck!

I'm a little confused. You say Amy is your friend, but she just said a terribly hateful thing about you to someone else. What possible reason would she have for doing this? Were I you, I might be tempted to confront Amy and find out what is up, that she made this terrible comment about you.

I wouldn't be offended because that's the individual persons opinion. I wouldn't ask you to watch my children and if you were around I would be very cautious. Some people dislike children and that's there business as long as it doesn't affect my children.

I wouldn't be offended. I am also married to a man who can't stand children. Don't get me wrong, he loves the two we have but as far as other peoples children, he wants nothing to do with them.

I'd be cautious of the person around my child, but I wouldn't be "offended."
