I have a pembroke welsh corgi that's about 2 year old male. For the past month or two I've noticed that he starts to get scared of something...like all of a sudden I notice he's sitting in a corner shaking and seemingly really scared of something. I've been home with him all day and nothing unusual. I don't abuse him...in fact he's spoiled rotten. Has anybody else had this issue or know what might be wrong with him? This is happening on several occasions and it's got me worried? Is he being abused behind my back? I can't think of any reason for him to be so scared. I'll call the vet but I just wanted to get some advice out there. Thanks in advance.

There are no other animals in the house and I highly doubt it's abuse. He doesn't get scared of one particular person in the household that I've noticed. He's normally a very confident dog with a bit of an attitude to him, so this is very unusual. My guess has been seziures or maybe something is wrong with him...it's interesting that it coudl be a sign of pain...it's not constant..just like lasts an hour or so and then he's back to normal

Yeah get him to the vet pronto! Corgis have a history of being epileptic and having recurring seizures starting from 18 months on and the types may vary and show up when they want to. I have heard of people having Corgis right around this age whom had to put their dogs down because of the uncontrollable seizures. Let us hope this doesn't happen to your dog. Get him to the vet and see whats going on. If in fact he is being abused then some x-rays will confirm any broken bones or injuries, and then it would be advised to pursue legal action. They vet can also (hopefully) diagnose whats going on and hopefully get him on some medicine to help. Good Luck with your baby. :)

This may not be of any help but I have a rabbit who makes ALOT of noise sometimes during the night. (we have her out most of the day and hates going in her cage at night --- so she romps around for 10-15 minutes before she settles down). Now my Peke has been fine with it for 5 years (hes 6 now) and for the past couple of months after he turned 6 years old he started to go behind the couch and shake! He doesn'y do this for the vaccum (he tries to fight the vaccum! LOL), if you're cleaning, cooking ect. He does back away if he hears pots and pans raddling though.

We called the vet and had a check up and everything came back fine. I think he's just starting to get more afraid or something. I know no one abuses my Peke because he wont let anyone near him! LOL except me and my mom.

If everything is cleared by the vet, he may just get scared easier. I really don't know why my dog got scared all of a sudden (or yours) but just try to reassure him and treat him as if hes never been around whatever sets him off.

Good luck and hope everything works out!

Hi. I have 2 Corgis too, so I hope everything is ok.

First, was he adopted? Do you know his background? Sometimes animals can experience 'flashbacks" where they might see something or hear something that reminds them of a bad situation and get scared. Almost like humans who experience flashbacks, when humans have Post-traumatic stress disorder.

Second, do these events occur at the same time each day? Maybe he is hearing something that is frightening him.

Third, corgis have BIG attitudes, and you said that he seems fine otherwise, is it possible that you are doing something to cause this reaction (NOT ON PURPOSE)....but something like vaccumming or dusting.

Corgis are very "feeling" and smart dogs, so please take him to the vet because something is not right.

check for anyone abusing him

sounds, objects, etc (such as my dog hates the vacuum cleaner noise and my cat hates thunder)

if it is not any of these, then go to the vet, it could be Parkinson's (or whatever they call it when dogs get the uncontrollable shakes or seizures etc ) and if that is the case the dog must have medical treatment

Sudden change in behavior needs to be checked out by a vet as it is often a sign of illness.

changes like this can often be an illness, if you are the only one around him all the time then abuse behind your back should be out of question. Do you have any other pets!??

Does he get scared when a certain person comes in the room? --- Maybe that person did something to scare your dog

Or Maybe he's scared of an object or a small animal (mouse, etc).

Have him checked out by the vet, it could be a symptom of pain.

corgi's are pre disposed to a neurological disorder that starts with fear then shaking and eventually paralysis, check with your vet to see if this has starting in your corgi
