on video recorders an E5 error means that the tape is faulty. so i am guessing it might be a disc problem

it seems it is an unable to read code the cheapest thing to try is a CD Head Cleaner disc like you use on your home DVD or computer failing this try the Goodman's site on the web

Why don't you contact goodmans
www.goodmans.co.uk and have a chat to the service dept.
The model you mentioned doesn't appear as a current unit.
