Or is it just the military that is at war, while the great majority of the American population ignores the whole Iraq mess and goes on with its normal way of life?

When did the American people choose to go to war in Iraq? Did you vote on it?
What is a "war" on "terror"? Terror is not a state or enemy force; terror is an emotion - your own emotion.
What defines "winning" or "losing" in the invasion of Iraq? How are we to know when we have "won" or are "defeated"? What do these terms mean in this case?

Paul Fussell's "Wartime" describes a nation really at war. In WW2, everybody participated in the war effort. People saved metals for salvage, drove only enough to make do on four gallons of gas per week, and lived with a nationwide speed limit of 35 miles per hour. Everyone knew there was a war on. Today I do not see anybody but our military sacrificing anyhting for what Bush calls a "noble cause" while his own family stays home and parties. Do you consider that America is "at war"?

America is not at war. Congress has to declare war for it to be a war and the last time that happened was in 1941///

Have you heard of the war on terror which is technically not an official war but a war nonetheless. Also the Americans don't care whether the sunnies or sh'ites win. All they want is for Iraq to become a stable democracy. Until then we have to make sure Iraq is secure.

I'm a veteran of a foreign war.
I believe the Iraq invasion was illegal because the facts presented for its justification are proven falsehoods.
The 'war' is not about geopolitical issues or victory,
but based on the previous no-bid contracts
and gross ethical violations of public office,
I believe this whole ball of string will connect to
who put the most earnings into offshore accounts.
American Corporations have blood on their hands.
From the soil of Iraq to American Military Hospitals.
Was this an impeachable offense
or a larger evil loose upon the world?

America being at war didn't start from the slimy acts of
plane hi-jackers on 09/11/01.....but, yes America is at
war.....Jihad, holy war or whatever it is they call it is going
on! Daniel Pearl, he wasn't military...have you forgotten
him? Or are you so confident the next time you go to
the mall, a ball game, or anywhere else people gather
that a bomber won't strike...the water won't be poisned...
or a bacterial/viral pestilence won't be unleashed?
Personally, I appreciate what the president and Homeland
Security have done to help protect us since 9/11....but I
also know they can't keep us from harm always...this is
WAR. and people die in war!

who gives a crap what they call it, jumping rope, playing jacks with the little bastards, dont become to technical on the words said, by myself or the Gov. IF YOUR ATRUE AMERICAN AND BELIEVE WE ARE ONE NATION UNDER GOD, then we, AMERICA, are at war. If you dont care about this BAD *** COUNTRY OF OURS, then the Military is at war, If you dont support our troops/ or keep them in your prayers, then get the &$*% out of this country. quit your crying, stop bad mouthing our brothers/sisters in arms, when the next attact on America occurs, we'll tell what ever country they are from, that we dont care if they attack us, the civis. dont like it when were at war.

To answer your question, the world is at war with terrorism..which is why it is a Multi-National Force...
The Liberals think that it is just the Republicans that are at war....someone needs to educate them .....it's an impossible mission....

Even the military really is not at war. This is another police-like action where most of the casualities are caused by roadside bombs.
No dumbass Arab is stupid enough to engage conventionally with any United States military unit as it is universally known that it is suicide - and the Arabs like to choose when they commit suicide so they can kill as many innocent civilians as they can.

America is not at war. We declared war on Saddam Husain and defeated him in two days. At that point the war was over. Now we are attempting to protect the Iraqies from themselves while they establish a new government.
