Yes you can. Red onion are slightly milder & sweeter than yellow onions so they will give an extra zip to your dish. You do not have to alter the amount that the recipe calls for.

Good Luck & Enjoy! ;-)

I have been cooking for 55 years and I would greatly prefer the purple onion. (that's what I call them). Now if you said white onion and purple or yellow.. I would love the white onion best... Now my all time for everthing onion is really green onions. But for practicallity sake.. White onion is big and sweet and tasty and chops up well.. So unless you need the yellow onion look and spicyness I'd say go with the purple onion. They look unique and taste good. I would use the same amount 1 measure for 1 measure, when doing an onion substitute of yellow, white, and purple.

Yes you can. A yellow onion is only sweeter then a red onion. But it probably wont make a too big of a difference.

Yes, you can use a red onion. Red onions are sweeter and milder than most yellow onions. If you are sauteing it or browning it, do so over lower heat and for less time to prevent scorching.

Red onion is really a lot stronger than a yellow or white onion. I would reduce the amount of onion your putting in a recepie if using a red onion.
