Christians I know tell me I will go to hell because I do not believe, why would I want to follow a god that would punish those who aren't sure?

Not true, our God (Christian's God) does not have that "policy", humans do however, especially the obsessed ones with religion.

Some people are intolerant to other religions and they say that anybody who doesn't believe in God, Jesus and all that, will go to hell, which I think is ridiculous.

In my opinion, that kind of people make look christians like fanatics or make the whole religion look bad. I agree with you, I wouldn't want to follow a God who will condemn anybody who, is a good person, merciful, unselfish, kind, and noble, but doesn't believe.

I think any religion is fine as long as you apply the golden rule of "don't to to other what you don't want to be done to yourself", meaning, DO GOOD THINGS.

"Does it seem that the christian god, has a 'if you are not with me you are against me policy'? "
Yes, I think that He does. Jesus said it Himself.

"Christians I know tell me I will go to hell because I do not believe, why would I want to follow a god that would punish those who aren't sure?"
It's that sin nature in us that wants to go against God. So you are right on cue. Being angry at God is what we got when Adam and Eve did what God told them not to do. So I am saying that we are naturally antiGod.

If someone WANTS to come to Him-- that's Him doing the effect of pulling that person in. The choice we have is either to trust Him, or don't. There is no in between-- He wants trusters. (Hebrews 11 would highlight that for you where faith = trust).

Stop confusing God with Religon. Not ALL Christians have such a narrow view of the world. As a Christian, I'm pretty tired of getting this bad press when I don't believe in the 'hell and damnation' theory.

Remember, the early Christian bible had about 30 books in it. Around 700 AD, some pope decided to take out what he didn't like and add a bunch more that he really likes. Unfortunatly, many good hearted Christians have been fooled by this guy.

The idea of Christianity is this. Love God and your fellow humans so much that you are incapable of harming anyone.

Thats all you need to do, love.

Hello

This is one of the reasons why I am not a Christian. Seems to me Christianity uses extortion like the Cosa Nostra does to keep people weak, fearful and unquestioning. If you dont do as they say, you go to hell. I refuse to be coerced into worshipping any deity which would demand this.

It really doesn't make sense to me. Why would an all-powerful divinity need to play such games?

Being unsure isn't the same as being completely against God. Being unsure implies curiosity and willingness to learn. However, you can know everything about the Bible and not be a Christian. If you ask God to dwell in your heart, He will.

All religions with a superior being have the same belief. All there gods demand to be the number one god or you will be punished. So lay off the one true god. He isn't going to send you to hell anyway. You send yourself. All he says is if you want to go to heaven, believe in me and my son,ask forgiveness, repent. You will join me in heaven. If you don't want to go there------there's only one other place to end up....Your choice....

If everybody you know gets an invitation to a party, but only some show up, are the others being punished? Or are they simply missing out on something?

We are all on a road to hell. God invites us to get off that road. It's your choice.

"'if you are not with me you are against me"
Is actually in the bible as a saying of Jesus. (Matt 12:30)
But in a different setting, so is "He that is not against you is for you." (Mk 9:40)

And why punish doubt? Because the biblical view is that there is enough evidence that doubt is not a reasonable position. (lots of references)

Me, I used to believe, but I do no longer, on what appear to me to be good grounds.

He loves you anyway, and isn't pushing you to let him in. There are many rewards of knowing Jesus and God. That- I suppose, is the only punishment. Not recieving his devine rewards here on earth or in heaven. God is love, and peace, and everything good. when anyone follows him, they feel those things.

Yes. This has been one of my many issues with Christianity and no Christian has ever been able to give me a sufficient answer as to why an all powerful God needs servants and worshipers.
