Hi, me and my family are going to Los Angeles this summer, and I convinced them b/c I'm a big fan of hollywood, movies, theme parks and all, but they told me I have to come up with a list of places to visit so we can make like a schedule, and to be honest, i don't know which places I should visit. Please somebody recommend me places to visit or activities to do, like the chinese theatre, beverly hills, etc...

Thanks!!

Hi there! I live very close to LA (born in Australia, by the way), so I can help you out a bit. Of course, Disney Land, Universal Studios (for a little taste of the Hollywood movie scene), Beverly Hills (to see the amazing mansions and shopping on Rodeo Drive), Grauman's Chinese Theatre, if you like music, the Hollywood Bowl offers great classical concerts, the beaches...Malibu, Zuma, etc. A drive along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) will take you through Santa Monica and Malibu Beach (where Britney Spears and other stars live). Those are some of the most touristy places, but you can also visit numerous amusement parks (Six Flags Magic Mountain about an hour north), Knott's Berry Farm, San Diego Zoo/Wild Animal Park/Sea World (San Diego is a couple hours south of LA). To the east is Palm Springs, only about 1.5 to 2 hours away. For a really fun day, take a ferry ride across the Pacific 26 miles from the LA coast and visit Santa Catalina Island. You catch a boat from Long Beach and spend the day looking around this really beautiful island...they have a glass bottom boat ride, hiking and shopping...definitely worth the trip (just look it up on the Internet). There are many other things, too, but this should get you started.

I hope you have a GREAT time!!

Certainly include a day trip over to Catalina Island. The 45 minute boat ride is fun, and the City of Avalon is small enough to see it all in one day. Wear comfortable shoes, you will mainly be walking. Also write for tickets to the taping of a television program, such as "The Price is Right", you might be a contestant and win a new car. It's fun to see all the "behind the scenes" stuff that goes on to make T V shows. Also make a reservation to go to Griffith Observatory after dark so your family can look out over just some of the lights that make up the Los Angeles basin. The Planetarium show isn't bad either. You are probably including Disneyland in your plans, just be aware that it is quite expensive, and in the summer it is very crowded. Lines to the attractions can take as much as an hour. Bring lots of sun block. Welcome to Los Angeles, and enjoy your visit.

I'll also tell you places to avoid, and don't venture off the main streets; Compton / South Central L.A., East Los Angeles, Korea town, parts of La Puente, and I'm sorry, but parts of the Hollywood district. Not very safe areas to be in. Also Six Flags Magic Mountain has poor security and occasional gang problems, there are better amusement parks to visit.

Mann's Chinese is next to Hollywood and Highland, where the Kodak theater (the Academy Awards venue) is located. I believe they do tours. Also, try looking into watching the live taping of a TV show. That's fun sometimes. I like the museums, like LACMA, MOCA and the Getty Center (the MOST gorgeous views!). The Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park recently reopened and I hear it's gorgeous (I haven't been, yet). And, of course, the beach - try Santa Monica or Venice. Have fun!

Go to Hollywood....Sunset and Vine. In Hollywood, you can go to many museums that are pretty fun. Go to Universal Studios, and Universal City Walk. You can spend a whole day at Universal Studios and the evening and Universal City Walk for dinner and shopping. Go to the beach. There are many around....Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Newport Beach, Balboa Island, Venice Beach.

In Long Beach you can visit the Pike as well as Shoreline Village.
