I have a 9 month old pitbull/lab mix, and he always is pulling on the leash and snaping or barking at people that pass. What can I do to make him not do that and to walk better? I need help, hes getting to strong!

Check out the Dog Whisperer on National Geographic Channel or his website.

He is almost a faith-healer he is so good with dogs. It is all about pack-mentality.

I'm not a dog expert but I have learned to train dogs. I've trained all my dogs on the leash and I've always used choke chains. When you walk your dog never let your dog lead. Hold the loop of the leash in your right hand and pick up the slack with your left hand. Keep your dog on your left side at all times. If he starts to pull to much then stop walking and pull him to your side. Don't start walking until he is sitting next to you. This will show him that you are in control. I don't usually use treats for my dog. I just spoil them with love when they do something right (it's cheaper that way! lol). But treats work well with older dogs. If this doesn't work then use a choke chain as your next effort. they aren't used to "choke" your dog. They're used to snap them back into focus. When he does wrong then jerk the leash. If he continues then do it again but never use a constant pull. Remember, choke chains should never be used as a regular everyday collar and should only be used for training your dog.

The snapping and barking at people is the bigger problem than the leash walking at this point. He is starting to show aggression toward people at a young age, which means you need to consult with a professional trainer now that specializes in dog aggression. Aggression gets worse as the dog gets more mature and since he is big and getting bigger and harder for you to control, you need to act right away. Call your local humane society and ask for recommended trainers in your area. Check them out carefully - you don't want anyone who uses harsh or violent methods. The trainer can help with both the aggressive behavior and the leash walking and control issues.

I would not recommend a regular obedience class at this point since he is already exhibiting serious aggressive behavior toward people and possibly other dogs.

If he is not neutered already, get it done now - this wil help with aggressive behavior.

Our dog was 4 months when we got her. It was hard cause she had never been on a leash before. My hubby took her to our drive way every day, on the leash that she hated.....And walked her around our cars, up and down the drive way....a good 15 minutes three times a day. Within a couple weeks...She was great with the leash. NOW she loves it, it means a walk. He practically dragged her the first few times.....Even in the rain...He never failed to do it.
