she should come home same day....there is no need to keep a pet over night for a spay. they may keep from morning till afternoon....over night i think is a big no no(learned hard way thought it was odd should have known better...dog ok..just tramatized)
after surgery
no running, jumping try to avoid the stairs only leash walk for potty needs. do not allow dog to lick sutures....they can sell u a cone to prevent licking...or ya can make one... no baths and keep dry....thats about it.

most all dogs are fine pugged nosed dogs can have trouble... but she should be just fine.

I have owned many, many dogs in my lifetime and have had all of them spayed. Don't worry, you'll puppy will be fine.

Spaying a dog is a perfectly routine procedure. Vets are VERY experienced in this field, and will know what to do. This is completely harmless. Your puppy will be able to come home with you as soon as the surgery is over.

Your vet will give you tips on how to care for her when she comes home. Just don't let her lick or nibble at her stitches. Don't give her a bath until the stitches come out, they need to be kept dry.

Ask your vet if there is anything you need to worry about, and I'm sure they'll be more than willing to fill you in.

Complications are rare during spay procedures. Some breeds( short muzzled) are sensitive to acepromazinne which is a pre anesthetic drug used by some vets. Valium is an alternative drug that can be used. Your vet will give you aftercare instructions. The hardest part is keeping the dog quiet for a couple of days so the stitches don;t get pulled. Good luck and thanx for spaying.

Good for you!

I work with SPCA, and we have never had a problem with a spay in all the hundreds of dogs we've had done. Your only concern will be to keep her quiet for a few days - easier said than done! And don't allow her to lick the incision or get it wet.

Good luck and don't worry!

Any time you do any procedure, give your pet any medicine, there's always a risk. It's a possibility but not very likely in this case. If the vet was concerned for your dog's health for a specific reason, they probably wouldn't even schedule the spay.

Both of my dogs came out fine.
And I volunteer with a rescue that spays/neuters all the time and have never heard of a problem.

I've had numerous dog/cats and have had only one horrible problem during neutering (a male dog). He was allergic to the anesthesia & died on the table. Complications are rare, but can & do happen, just like w/people.
