At least 100 times I was only a couple feet behind them and they let the door slam in my face.

WHY are women so rude?

I know they know I'm there. They can hear my shoes on the ground. They purposely let the door slam shut.

This is at my work office building. Maybe 1 in 50 hold the door open for me.

Compare to men. About 45 out of 50 hold it open for me in that case.

I'm very happy to report here in the Netherlands women and men both hold the door open about equally! Only among older guys and some other cultures it's still common for all the guys to hold it open even if that means they have to go out of their way (which often irritates me... some traditional guys are so eager to hold open the door for me that they rush to cut in front of me or struggle with the door while they have their hands full, a very ineffective thing to do even if it may be 'correct etiquette' for a guy to open a door for a woman). But most groups, it's pretty equal... and lots of people, male and female, will indeed hold it if you're right behind them.

Do what I do when a guy lets the door close on me, grab it real hard- and say "Thanks" to them- it usually lets them know what an a$$ they've just been.

I don't like it when a women holds a door for me, I feel like I should be racing up to hold the door for them-

But it does get my goat when i do hold a door for a woman and she can't even say thank you (about 60% of the time) -

In those cases I then slam the door on them.

People in general, seem to be becoming more rude and self-centered. Years ago, I remember my then 5 yr. old son being upset because he had held the door open for at least a dozen women who all entered a store that we were visiting and not one of them said thanks, even though they could clearly see that a child was holding the door for them. I had to take him aside to comfort him because he was so disappointed, at their lack of responsiveness after doing what he thought had been a good deed. The same thing goes for pregnant women getting a seat on trains or buses. Most people, both men and women won't give up their seats to help them. Bring back the old days!!

I'm a woman, and I always hold the door open for other people, regardless of gender. However, I have noticed men are far more common to hold doors open, whereas women will let it swing behind them.

Women expect men to hold the door for them, but most havn't put too much thought towards holding the door for other women. Women get a lot of attention and pampering from men, causing them to lose sight of what most of us consider to be basic courtesy.

Start saying THANK YOU really loud enough for them to hear. If they didn't do it on purpose, they will be polite and turn around and say something like, "Oh my, I am sorry."

When I walk into a building I am not always aware of the people behind me. I don't think I have ever given it any thought, but I will now.

Because some of them can be real snots, especially the high class types. But there are women who do hold the door open for people....just not many....

Wow, these women suck. I have seen some women just simply ignore the other person at the back. But from my experience, most women hold the door for me. I guess I'm lucky ;)

It's all about environment.
Men are taught to always hold the door open for women. Consequently, we tend to hold the door open for anyone following us.

Women are taught to have the door held open for them. Subconsciously, they never consider holding the door for someone else.

They're not being rude... They're being inconsiderate.

I'm not sure. I've had that happen alot. But then, my own mother does that too. When I've asked her why, she says she forgets and that she's in her own world. Maybe that's why women do that to you too. You might want to start slowing up and just getting the door yourself. Don't expect anything of anyone and then if they end up extending the courtesy to you, you can be pleasantly surprised.
