Order comes from chaos...sometimes you have to go through a shake-up to grow...we find strength we never knew we had when we face adversity...plus it helps us to become stronger so we can help others through their trials.

To answer your question from the Christian perspective:

Christians believe that God ALLOWS for bad things to happen to "good" people. He does not cause bad things to happen, or punish good people... that's all Satan.

Rather, it's a way of showing us that it's His will, He is allowing it to happen, He is in control (we still have free will, but ultimately He has a perfect plan and our own/personal/free decisions are a part of that plan...that's a whole other topic!).

It can also be God's way of reminding/showing good people that just because they are good doesn't mean they don't need God. Bad things may happen to some Christians (assuming they are good people, too) and it is up to that Christian to either blame God, or realize that it happened for a reason. Bad things that happen to good Christians can also be a reminder to them that they cannot live without God, because He is their strength.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

...This popular Bible verse shows why Christians believe that whatever they do, they do for Christ, who is their savior and strengthens them.

It can be easy for "good people" or Christians, or any other person of another religion to expect that their reward for being "good" would be an easy, blissful, worry free life... but wouldn't this mean they no longer need God if they are given "the good life" with no suffering?

Christians believe that God allows for "bad things" to happen to remind them that they cannot live life according to their own desires, but according to what God would want. So sometimes He allows for suffering, whether or not the person is good or bad, Christion or non-Christian.

I could go on more, so let me know if you need clarification or would like more info!

It doesn't.

Bad things happen. Sometimes you bring it on yourself, by doing stupid things. Other times, you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. And sometimes you need to learn something from a mistake you made.

But why would the Gods necessarily have anything to do with it and why would faith explain it?

You screw up, you own it. You make a mistake, you deal with it, and sometimes it just happens and you learn to accept that it's part of life.

Jesus tells us (red letters) that we live in a world full of trouble (John 16).

Until all people accept the love of Jesus in their hearts, we will have trouble.

The living God never tells us in the scriptures that we will not have problems and everything will good and merry here on out. What he tells us is that he will never abandon us. He will in essence take our hand and walk with us through the valley. Sometimes, he even carries us.

Even people without the love of Christ in their lives have trouble. The enemy is an equally opportunity misery spreader. At least we (Christians) know we have the victory through Jesus Christ and our salvation is set. We have hope.

Catholic (Christian) view:

Before Adam and Eve's (mankind's) disobedience, this world was perfect and bad stuff did not happen. Adam and Eve's disobedience brought evil into the world and ever since, bad things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people.

Jesus came into this world and through his obedience to the Father's will, He restored our relationship with the father so that even though bad things still happen to good people, in the long run, after we have left this life, we will have everlasting life.

Cool.

My "faith" in the laws of probability explain that when you remove causality from the equation, good and bad things happen to people at the same statistical rate whether or not they believe in God and whether or not they pray to God.

I think suffering is part of living in a more and more complex world. Psychologically, when bad things happen to good people, it is natural for most people to feel worse than when bad things happen to bad people.

Hi there.. according to my faith.. if a good person is going through some rough times, then it's God testing him... God tests those whom he loves.. God tests to get closer to them.. When a person is inflicted with pain or undergoes some hard times, he is likely to remember God... So, in a way, one who is suffering is lucky to take the little test from God since God considers him special and loves him.. During such times when the person shows patience and and still remembers God, he passes the test with flying colours and is rewarded immensely..
Remember.. nothing is forever.. not even any pain...

Peace..

In Islam every bad thing that happens to someone is like a test to see how faithfull they are and how they try to solve that problem.

a simple example : a faithfull person loses his job, God wants to see if he'll start stealing or not.(test of faith since stealing is a sin)

in Islam, bad things that happen to the faithful are generally due to their sins, God is punishing them for some of their wrongdoings they did in this life so as to not be punished in the next life (which is a far greater and lasting punishment) This is in general but God knows best.

Bad things happen to good people just like good things happen to bad people. There is no explanation. It's just things happening. Keep your faith.
