So many people tailgate and are completely oblivious to it. So many people will just sit in the left lane on a freeway with the attitude "I'm going fast enough" and force people to pass on the right (which is probably more dangerous that someone speeding in the left lane). Why can't people use the left lane as a passing lane like it is supposed to be and not as a fast lane (I hate that term).

The number one cause of death for teenagers is car accidents. Drivers training needs to start at 14 and needs to be way more rigorous. Teenagers should not be able to drive alone until they are 18 and should be accompanied by a licensed driver when they are 14 - 17. I can't even remember the countless situations I ran into while on the road as teen that was barely touched in drivers education. Maybe teens can be that driving at high speeds when conditions permit is safe if you know how to drive.

It sucks driving in America (don't hate me I love my country) after you drive in Germany. No one tailgates (and if you do you get fined big time unlike here where almost no one gets a ticket for it) and everyone has left lane courtesy so passing is actually done on the left. Not to mention all the yield signs where Americans would put stop signs. I just don't get it...isn't the whole purpose to keep traffic moving? Don't give me the speeding is dangerous comment I'm sick of hearing it. Germany has less accidents per mile driven so save it. People who can't make decisions on the road cause accidents... we need a more rigorous drivers training program and tailgating tickets need to written more often.

some of your points are valid. First they'd have to get more money to hire more police to write more tickets. Don't know where'd that come from. Second, anyone who gets caught drunk driving more than once should have much stricter sentences, like no driving is a good place to start. And, seniors should have mandated tests every year. Sorry, I'm almost there myself, but, personally, I see seniors doing alot more stupid things than teenagers. And families that let people borrow their cars when they know they don't have a valid license, or don't have insurance should have mandatory jail sentences themselves. I've seen this happen-sister let her brother borrow her car cause his license was suspended, he stopped taking his seizure medicine, had an accident with injuries. I have 3 teen drivers, and I'm more afraid of the experienced impatient drivers than I am them or their friends!

You are correct. Personally, I write tailgaters citations for following too close, even when they are not involved in an accident for running into the rear of someone. It's one of my pet peeves. And I also write for not traveling in the right hand lane on a highway with multiple lanes. That is another one of my many pet peeves that I have with drivers...most of whom don't need to be licensed. I'll tell you another one while I'm at it. Let's say your stopped at a red traffic signal and your number 6 or 7 in line. When the light turns green there is this accordion effect because everyone stops too close to each other. If drivers would leave enough room to see the rear tires of the car in front of them then you could get twice as many cars through the intersection before the light cycles again. If there is enough space all the cars can go at once and not one at a time. And I'm with you on the driver training, too.

In this day and age young drivers certainly need more rigorous training before given a licence. Stupidity kills more often than speed but when you combine both someone will most certainly get hurt or killed. Tailgaters and left lane hogs are a good example of driving stupidity and should lose their licence for as long as it takes them to learn consideration for others.

Personally I think it should be raised to 21. Mandatory drivers education from an approved school for 2 years prior to getting beginners permit at 21. Probationary drivers license until 25. If during that time you get into an accident that is your fault - banned from driving for life. If you get caught drinking and driving - banned from driving for life. If you kill someone in an accident while you have been drinking. Life in prison.

Over 75% of the drivers on American roads have no business driving. It became so easy to get a license in America and so difficult in Europe because the Auto manufactures wanted to sell cars. If it was too hard to become a driver, then they couldn't sell more cars and make money. Other countries thought is was too dangerous to have so many unskilled drivers on the road so they made it more difficult and more expensive to become a driver.

Well, in Germany, the legal age to drive is 18. I think that's the biggest problem here. we all know that 16 year olds think they are invincible. I wouldn't be against the legal age limit to drive to be at 18 instead of 16. I also think its sad that parents will just buy their kids a car instead of making them work for it and pay for it themselves. I think teenagers would show more respect for their vehicles and others around them if they knew the true value of owning an automobile.

There are a lot of requirements to getting a licence, however, I don't think changing them is going to help your cause.

The issue is consideration and unfortunately I don't think people are very considerate anymore. As far as any driver is concerned the only one on the road is them and you don't exist. Sorry.

Sorry.. my state already changed it.. you cannot get a full licence in the state of california anymore until you are 18 under any circimstances as of Jan 2007.. Kiddies under 18 are only conditional permits now.. so I guess we beat ya to the complaint.. and we legally solved it.. ITS THE LAW..
